short of ODing on whatever cocaine he's obviously snorting, Zelensky will not just throw in the towel like Milosevic (who later also got ousted from power). not while having the 'support' of the West et al, even if without direct NATO intervention. as long as that's there, his ego will never allow him to retire. maybe after a few more of these 'glorious counterattacks' that get repulsed by russian arty grind enough fighting men into dust, but right now this deffo seems like it'll take months to settle down into anything that looks even remotely like a permanent cease-fire ala the Koreas or such...or years, depends how stubborn both sides keep on being.

I don't think he's going to throw in the towel until some real pressure is put on his glorious Kyiv. The pullback from Keiv as part of the cease-fire agreement was pretty foolish imo, particularly when they were already letting civilians evac by rail. I think Russia is pussyfooting around there because it's worried about all of the western media hanging out in Keiv, but that's just not something that should be entering into strategic thinking. While politics do matter in war, Russia is not going to win over western mainstream media nor are they going to be more in bed with Ukrainian interests than they already are so it's basically a moot point.

This is one of the most beautiful things about this shit show, Russia's tank forces have been sperged religiously for literal decades, now it's been exposed for what it is, cheap Cold War Era equipment that has only been "modernized" on paper, it still has an outdated APS making it utterly helpless to even somewhat modern ATGMs, it still has an outdated, cramped design that makes things hell for the crew, and it still has no blowout panels so it still has a one in three chance of launching it's turret and the vaporized remains of it's crew a hundred feet into the air every time it gets hit.

Roskomnadzor will draw up a protocol on an administrative offense under Art. 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation in relation to the Internet portal "Wikipedia" for not deleting unreliable socially significant materials, as well as other prohibited information.

In accordance with the requirement of the General Prosecutor's Office of Russia, Roskomnadzor sent a notification to the administration of the Internet resource to immediately remove inaccurate information on the subject of a special military operation of the RF Armed Forces in Ukraine, aimed at misinforming Russian users.

According to Russian law, for failure to remove such illegal materials within the prescribed period, the site owner faces administrative liability in the form of a fine of up to 4 million rubles.

By the way, 4 million rubles = currently less than $50k.

No. This is what everyone’s been saying since like the second week of the invasion. What alternate universe are you living in? Russia could have sent hundreds of Iskanders at Kiev, pounded it with MLRS’s and heavy artillery, and reduced it to rubble. Instead it sent in armoured columns(edit: and the VDV lol). It’s pretty obvious they wanted to take the city intact.

I think the calculus might change on this front though. Russia might feel forced to do to Kiev what it has done to Mariupol and is doing to Kharkov, since it’s struggling to advance otherwise.

Then it was "Ok, Russia doesn't want Kiev" which is hilarious as literally everything Putin has said in the past shows he REALLY wants it, he considers Kiev to be the birthplace of Russia, and let's not forget about that article that was released by Russian state-owned media celebrating the capture of Kiev and "reversing the tragedy of 1991" like three or four days into the war.

If they want* Kyiv (), they'll try to take it. Not send relatively small forces to camp out to the northwest and northeast of the city and mildly harass them from 20 miles away. While major potential reinforcements sit playing with their peckers in Belarus. So far they haven't tried to take it.

What they've done so far doesn't even look like a serious attempt to encircle and besiege the place, it looks like a (successful) attempt to tie down Ukie central while the real fighting takes place east and south. Ukies are celebrating like it's Yub Nub time because they've "recaptured" a few villages the Russians pulled out of to reinforce the East. In their position I'd do the same, but it makes zero difference to their strategic position, which is dire.

*I have no idea if Russia wants Kiev, but trying to capture a large city full of armed and angry people who hate you doesn't sound like a good plan. They'd either have to flatten the place and kill huge numbers or accept horrific casualties and still flatten the place. Let's hope Russia doesn't want Kevin, it would be a bloodbath and too many people have died already.
