So we sold the oil reserves...when prices were at the lowest they had been in years?
Yes! It wasn't even a function of price discovery. Since the 2011 Libyan "incident", the last time we mandated a release of oil, we mostly just let that oil sit around (you know, in a stockpile) and some reductionists asked, "do we even need this thing around?"

Sales of oil became a way to balance budgets by offsetting spending. "Surely, a limited resource with no other source except very old dead things will never actually go up in price again", they said.

Mostly because we know how to force project ourselves a shit ton of oil if we really have to:

Edit: Forgot to post the prices:

We could have pumped our way out of debt, mayhap. That might even still be the plan.

yeah... disagree. you're talking about a history ending event dreamt up by a weird hermit living on an island, when civilizational decline is a tale as old as time.
To be fair to the more literal christians I think they have a heuristic and it works well enough even if it's mistaking the prime mover.

If you're a desert dwelling non literate society there's a safe way to consume shellfish, but you're still too retarded to handle the level of complexity required so the smart people of your tribe just make it religiously verboten to stop people dying of food poisoning all the time.

Likewise we've always had faggotry and child abuse (but I repeat myself) and broken families and two working parent households and abortion and corruption and single mothers and and and etc, but they were a minor aberration on the fringes of a society built on a pretty strong foundation of nuclear families (tangentially is that name a 60s era scary word psyop?), small temporally-long lasting but geographically relatively static communities (ie you were raised in a two parent household barring illness or accident and probably within 30 miles of where your grandparents were born), all nested within a relatively hegemonic cultural, racial, religious society with a strong hierarchy.

Now maybe you can have high levels of the former, maybe you can even have high levels of the former without a strong foundation of the latter but it wasn't possible in the past which is why all those were frowned on while the elements of the strong foundation were encouraged.

Evidence seems to point to the fact that it's still not possible. Maybe in a post scarcity space communist era. Maybe.

In short, the christians are right that society is fraying at the seams because we allowed too much promotion of bad things and too much denigration of good things.

It's not God causing society to fail though, we're doing it to ourselves.

Also, Romans teaches the lesson of degeneracy to a society (Rome, duh) which had just seen a marked fall in quality from Augustus through Claudius and now, the initial (good) years of Nero. Christianity was derided as a mystery cult and not particularly loved by the backwater it originated in,

Also it's a Pauline epistle likely penned in Corinth; the social commentary presented in the New Testament is not limited to John's Revelation on Patmos.

These are not mutually exclusive.
From my understanding of events God only tends to step in when things have gotten so bad its time for a reset button. See Noah, and then later on Attila only fucking up Rome because the place was such a corrupt shitheap all their manpower had been spent in civil wars and the competent leadership stabbed in the back by idiots wanting to take credit for things turning around.

Na, they're already pretty remorseful already it looks like. No need to really grind things in deeper.
For 4 years, there were vocal leftists saying that if you supported Trump you were explicitly supporting racism, sexism, whatever else, and that you were a horrible person who should feel bad. And rest assured they'd never miss an opportunity to tell you. This "playing nice" shit is why we end up here again over and fucking over. Play by their rules for once. Make them feel atrocious for it.

I'm afraid to see how bad things truly get, because things are pretty grim right now.
I'm thinking God is probably working through Putin to nuke the fuck out of the West.

It doesn't matter how nice or mean you are to these bugmen. They'll vote blue no matter who, just like their masters tell them every 2-4 years.

Oh yeah. Twist the knife into them, make them squeal for mercy.

The bar for talking to the press now is so low thanks to Kamala, I wonder why they just don't hire PAWG sex workers then send them out. Theres no way they can be worse. And more black guys will vote for them.

>Using Mal Malloy as an example
I unironically would, and I'm not even black.

Sometimes I wonder, if there's a God, why doesn't he immediately pitch us all into a fiery lake of everlasting torment?

because if there is a god, he's having a hell of a laugh at our retardation
the folly of man is that we imagine god to be no nonsense, logical, and unemotional even when we are all these things and think ourselves created in his image

The Roman and Greek philosophers had a good idea that we had a spark of divinity in that we understood things in the Universe, but we are still no better than the animals around us, and it's up to us to fight our baser nature.

In my many flirtations with deism I concluded that if any force we could reasonably interpret as God existed, it would be outside of our ability to understand. I try not to worry about it though.
