There was so much evidence this wasn't another exercise, from the deployment of way more units, to the pontoon bridges outside of exercise zones, to the repositioning of aircraft, to the amassing of naval assets in the Black Sea. And people looked at this easily available intelligence, that the CIA was pointing out looked like the runup to an invasion, the history of the Russians using 'Exercises' to mask buildup of military assets before invasions, and went, "I DON'T BELIEVE THE GLOWNIGGERS EVER REEEEEEEE", especially on the right. The signs were all there, and obvious.

the us would not even need to involve its army or marine corps at all in a defense of taiwan. it's a naval war, fought by warships and aircraft, a million drafted conscripts don't really help in a setting like that. so no, no draft necessary.

The US would absolutely have to engage more than just its pacific fleet to gain air superiority and it might still be left at a numerical disadvantage since while the US does have more planes than China, China could afford to commit close to 100% of its airforces while the US would be lucky to be able to commit 50% due to the US having its shit spread all over the world. Likewise, US planes operating over Taiwan would enjoy very little support from other assets like AA missile systems whereas Chinese aircraft could easily retreat back to AA bubbles in mainland China.

I half agree. Yes, the Chinese can't defeat the Seventh Fleet. No, I don't think that's what they're planning at this time. Taiwan is only about 100 miles from the Chinese coast and while China's navy is certainly not comparable to the US, a war in Taiwan would be well within the range of support from land-based fighters and surface to surface missiles. The US would absolutely have to engage more than just its pacific fleet to gain air superiority and it might still be left at a numerical disadvantage since while the US does have more planes than China, China could afford to commit close to 100% of its airforces while the US would be lucky to be able to commit 50% due to the US having its shit spread all over the world. Likewise, US planes operating over Taiwan would enjoy very little support from other assets like AA missile systems whereas Chinese aircraft could easily retreat back to AA bubbles in mainland China.

Chinese simply can't deploy that much of its airforce and have it be remotely coordinated. Much of their Air Force is also outdated as fuck MiG-21's and MiG-21 clones, with very little access to PGM's. Most of their SAM systems are likewise rather old. The risk of red on red in such a tight space would be gigantic, especially as Chinese air control isn't great and has never been tested in such a way ever, not even in their own exercises in an offensive capacity. The PLAAF and PLAANF are not great air forces.

i know that the battlefield (the taiwan strait) would be within range of chinese coastal installations, including missiles and aircraft.
conversely, those same chinese coastal installations would also be within range of US missiles and aircraft, launched either from american warships or from installations on taiwan.

the US could never hope to successfully launch an invasion of china because the country is too big, the population too large, and the number of soldiers china could mobilize too huge.
but in a sea-based (or coast-to-coast) exchange of missiles and aircraft between warships and military bases, the US forces would achieve a decisive victory.
