I'm just saying dude, you're insisting it's easily crossable when there isn't even a good view of it
It's certainly shallow and narrow enough to cross with a rifle in hand with no problem, and like I said, that's a moot point anyway since you would die if you tried to cross it in those temperatures. Likewise, even if someone was trying to cross it, there look to be narrower points a short distance both up and downstream that you can see in the video.

Still doesn't change the fact you move and swim faster with less gear.

The handy guide is this: Any territorial outcome that doesn't at least leave the rest of Ukraine landlocked is a Russian defeat and a sub-Winter War tier outcome. Formalizing Donetsk and Lugansk as Russian or settling after Mariupol, a city that went over to the DNR without a shot fired in 2014, is a loss clear to anyone no matter how many layers of spin they're on.
I expect they'll end up with Donbass, an enlarged Crimea, and the Black Sea coast up to... Odessa, maybe. Ukies may get to keep a bit of coastline in the far west, but access to it will depend on the Russian navy allowing them to use it.

The real problem for Russia (and Ukraine) is how to make peace. Zelensky tried to deescalate the situation in the east by ordering a partial withdrawal in 2019, shortly after he was elected. He wanted to normalize relations with Russia and end the civil war. Azov openly told him to fuck off, other Ukie nationalists threatened to kill him, and he gave up. Zelensky may be a comic, but he's not a clown.

Anger, hatred and political extremism in Ukraine are a lot worse now, and the worst murderers in their prisons (including guys who were too extreme even for Azov) have been released and armed, so I dunno how Zelensky or any Ukie leader can agree to a peace treaty without being assassinated. Their Western backers won't allow it either. Continued State Department funding will be contingent on them not coming to terms with Russia. That means a frozen conflict, like the situation in Cyprus if they're lucky. More like Korea if they're unlucky.

They should've listened to Zelensky in 2019, because whatever comes next for Ukraine is guaranteed to be a lot worse than what they agreed with Russia in the Minsk talks. Idk how they'll recover from losing their industrial heartland AND millions of young people, in a country that had catastrophic birth rates and the worst economy in Europe even before the war. Hope getting a standing ovation from Nancy Pelosi was worth it. :stress:

Unsourced claims, so doubt at your leisure, but it's too funny to not share.

Found it!
A video from Chechnya, a charity event from Kadyrov, products for families whose members are soldiers (soldiers are alive). Consider it a bonus
The original post is still pretty funny, even if it is fake.

lol alright then. Let's ignore everything else I pointed out and assume that's true. I'm pretty sure I can chuck a rifle across that narrow ass creek and pick it up on the other side, and then not have to worry about getting raped later on. This story would have been believable if they'd dropped everything else but their rifles. Ultimately, an unlikely story coming from pathological liars has pretty high odds of being bullshit.

I'm ignoring the debate and beg to ask, why are you so obsessed with rape?

bruh have you ever tried to throw a gun before?

Again, where are these gangs of homosexual rapists prowling the countryside, did Garth Ennis' Crossed just begin in Ukraine?

Plus besides, dropping your weapon to run away faster is something that fleeing troops have done throughout history, especially if they're something like conscripts who never wanted to fight in the first place.
Hell of a hazard pay.
I'd prefer a 20% differential

Regardless of if you think the abandoned equipment video is legit or not, one thing stands. Russia being forced to retreat and abandon all attempts at taking or shelling Kiev into submitting is a large blow to the Russian war effort, No matter how Russia frames it. This is huge for Ukrainian morale as they successfully defended Kiev and kicked the Russians to the other side of the Pripyat Marshes and their only foothold west of the Dneiper is Kherson which have had successful Ukrainian counter attacks near it.

Not to mention, Kiev not being taken basically takes regime change right off the table, anyone who thought putting up a puppet government in Kiev wasn't Putin's main objective when the troops first drove into Ukraine is huffing Heavy-Duty Copium.

This war isn't over yet, but morale as well as gaining inititive is a major part of winning a war, and Ukraine just got a big boost in both.

And now for a million takes on how Russia losing the battle for Kiev is actually part of the plan.

I have actually and am rather curious as to why you think this is something particularly hard to do.

>fleeing troops have done throughout history
It's really not. This is one of the reasons why war deserters are considered to be so dangerous.

In @mr.moon1488's defense some Russian guys look as effete as a young Björn Andrésen. More than enough to make a starved Ukrainian revolutionary want to bust a nut instead of busting a cap.

Ukraine is making history while Putin drowns in his own distorted past. That's more poetic than visiting the Hague.

according to the russian side, the entire kiev part of the operation was only ever intended to be a distraction, to pin down lots of ukrainian forces in the northwest in order to prevent them from being deployed in the southeast, which is where the russians real war effort is happening

how much of this is real and how much is cope we can't say for sure

It's pretty much entirely cope. You don't throw that much of the VDV into the meatgrinder alongside thrusts from the 2nd Guards Motor Rifle and 4th Guards Tank Divisions on a 'feint'.

we dont know how many ukr forces were actually pinned or distracted by this feint, how many casualties were inflicted vs how many losses the russians suffered in the process, how much overall value was gained from it, etc. maybe after the war is over we can look back and see clearly, but for now i think we just dont have enough information to know for sure
