The loss of fuel reserves is not going to be an issue when NATO is writing blank checks for all your needs and desires. Long term, yeah that infrastructure is going to cost a lot. I would say the humiliation of the VDV and GRU as well as the loss and even capture of large amounts of late model vehicles is going to hurt the Russians more. The Russians losing so many professional and veteran forces is the historical equivalent of the Allies losing big at Normandy or Iwo Jima with the Axis seizing roughly 30% of deployed materials intact.

I think the fact that Ukraine managed to make a major strategic success after calling and arming up their reserves and outnumbering the Russians almost 2:1 (yes, pre-war, Ukraine's entire army outnumbered Russia's invasion force almost 2:1, these guys aren't Volkssturm) broke their minds. Even though people were saying once reservists managed to get armed and put out to the fronts Russia would have a hard time.

I think 2016 really broke some people and they haven’t recovered yet. Nowadays, people see even just listening to other viewpoints as agreement/endorsement. It makes it so much harder to have real discussions with people like that. Luckily that’s not everyone, but social media really seems to cultivate that mindset as a virtue.
