President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

It's funny because Trump did warn the Germans during a speech he delivered at the UN that they were too dependent on Russian energy and the German envoys laughed at him, now the German government is having to scramble to find a new energy source and Trump was again proven correct but anyone that had more than 1 braincell could see how badly relying on the Russians for energy security was for European nations.

They hated Trump because he told them the truth.

I'm waiting to see if my IT friend from Russia will be able to relocate.
Oh, I'm sure it will be more or less fine, IT people are in the safest spot right now.
Though, it seems Moscow is getting literally paranoidal, police started to check everyone just to find someone who disagrees with the current politics, so if your friend is there, maybe it's time to move from that city for a while. Smaller places are chill.

Apparently environmentalists in Germany have a lot of power and managed to convince the government to abandon nuclear energy and suck Russia's cock for natural gas.

I would guess that these orders also came in very late and very suddenly, as it was said that Russia wanted to move troops away from Kiev during one of the newest rounds of peace talks in Turkey. I'm not overly surprised though to see how badly the Russians have bungled the retreat though considering how badly they bundled the invasion like with all their "elite" VDV that got cut down at Hostomel with no air support; just another display of Putin's tactical genius.
It's fair to say that Trump did challenge some of the more stale orthodoxies that had become embedded in foreign affairs, and many did find him erratic and difficult to read - however, this wasn't some ploy of his, he was genuinely erratic.

Take two decisions he made that made no fucking sense, and highlighted the problem with how he dealt with foreign affairs:

Killing that Iranian general. Literally provoked Iran for no discernable benefit.

Withdrawing US support from the Kurds. Threw a long time regional ally to the wolves for nothing, undermined trust in have the US as an ally for no benefit.

I think the real problem with Trump is that these flashes of tact were interspersed with heaps of retardation. That is what Trump is deep down, a fucking idiot who makes stupid decisions that somehow work sometimes - he's like Forest Gump, only Forest went to Vietnam.

When it comes to Ukraine, I doubt he would of been different than Biden. Maybe spouted off more, but Biden seems to be doing that too. You listen to your advisors and generals, and as far as I can tell even the John Bolton's and other war hawks have never suggested taking on Russia directly.

@CaesarCzech

Basically nothing will happen by the U.S. to India. The U.S. cannot come out and really demonize them for one reason. Optics.

This Admin is currently a slave to optics as they desperetly attempt to lift their cratering poll numbers. The problem, optically, is that they made a big deal out of Harris being Indian. If they crack down on India now, they fracture off a significant chunk of the identity politics brigade who support them purely because of Harris' ethnicity. And they cannot afford to damage yet another section of their base.

I am not sure how much of it are actual citizens.

On high level, Russia has bought a bunch of politicians and high profile stars like Depardieu (he renounces his support but NOT the wineyards in Crimea that Putin gave him) and Segal (ok, may be not A)
I think the best evidence that citizens of most NATO nations haven't been that pro-doing-their-own-stuff is that most people picture NATO as just the US. When NATO does anything you don't hear France being called out. When Ukraine was wanting to join NATO you didn't hear people saying that was Germany antagonizing Russia.

The usual attitude I've seen from non-Americans is that the US could knock themselves out if they wanted to fund NATO, but that their countries had better things to do. Because at the end of the day, most NATO members didn't seem to think of it as a group endeavor to defend each other so much as an excuse for the US to act as warmongers.

Crimea referendum was forged.

lol, yeah that's why the Crimean population is fighting so hard against Russia right?

The ICJ already ruled that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is unjustified. Once they issue a judgement, that will give the EU, US, Japan, etc. a legal basis to enforce the judgement and compensate Ukraine from the seized funds.

The ICJ/ICC also found several US elected officials guilty of war crimes in Iraq, but since the US doesn't recognize their authority it doesn't matter. Which means this doesn't matter either. The ICJ isn't relevant to US interests or decisions. The US can't use their decisions as justification for anything since the US completely ignores their rulings on war crimes. The Hague is a punchline in the US.

When it comes to Ukraine, I doubt he would of been different than Biden.

Well we already know how he was with Ukraine. He kept Russia from invading Ukraine during his presidency, unlike Obama or Biden. The fucktards on the left like to pretend Trump was Putin's bitch but the fact is Trump was erratic and unpredictable and nobody had reliable control over him, which is why he was seen as such a threat to the international (and domestic) order.

Another thing the West can use to sweeten the deal is allowing India to buy Western weapons and vehicles at discounted price, and fast. But I don't know if both politicians and military will allow it
The West already tried this repeatedly but the Indian Govt is so fucking corrupt very little progress have been made. Nevermind the bribes and blame shifting* that comes attached to any possible deal. *Nobody in the West wants to be held responsible for shit tier Indian workmanship and quality control.

What I'm thinking is that what changed the most is not Biden being a president, but Covid-19. The pandemic destroyed any sort of recovery Russia had after 2014 sanctions, and also killed lots of their people when their population is already ina state of serious decline. There's also Putin increasingly going paranoid, even isolating himself, and feared for his life especially because of the Covid

Thus far about 360K Russians have kicked the bucket due to covid. That's a number so small that it can't have any meaningful impact on the decisions of Putin or his cadre, especially when you consider that most of them have been old people just like everywhere else in the world. Yeah, just like every other industrialized nation on Earth Russia is seeing population decline, but thinking that Covid has anything to do with it is just erroneous.

1) It was basically a message to Iran to stop fucking around in Iraq and crippled their operations. And it pretty much worked until Biden came around.

2) I'm not sure supporting commie terrorists who cleansed entire areas of Syrian Arabs and pissing off an actual regional ally in Turkey was a good idea in the first place. Especially when YPG has proven themselves to be absolutely fucking inept without the US holding their hand (see the recent ISIS breakout where they had to inflate the number of escaped prisoners because admitting the YPG couldn't handle 30 fucking guys in the heart of their territory and had to beg Americans for help is...not a good look). So that was Trump trying to walk back the errors of the Obama era in the region...as usual.

People think Trump was retarded because he had a big mouth. Ignoring what was taken out of context anyway, dude was actually pretty smart on many things.

Technically, yes.

Realistically? Zhukov is a massively overrated general, and the massive disparity in losses despite the overwhelming superiority in both manpower and materiel should demonstrate why.
This is late, but a lot of the issues Zhokov had with losing men can be traced back to Stalin always hounding his ass to move forward and attack. The man wasn't a heartless bastard, There are story's of him doing right by his troops. He simply did not have the luxury to take his time in engaging the enemy. In some ways he reminds me of the struggles General Grant faced.

Now this Russian atrocity shit is quite horrible. I was on the fence for most of this conflict because I assumed it was a grey and grey situation, but if they are just wantonly killing everything and anyone at this point then fuck em. The nazi's were evil, but they were the lesser evil.

1) absolutely did not achieve any of this, in any way whatsoever

2) dropping a regional ally actively fighting the terrorist organisation you purport to want rid of, that you've been allied to for decades, and making yourself out to be unreliable to your other allies isn't a good look.

Nah Trump was fucking retarded, not always and in every facet of what he did - but in a large amount of it.

Either way, I hope to move out of here as soon as possible. Most people with something to offer already have, but I don't possess any sort of special skills to make me particularly valuable, so it's challenging. Never even been abroad.
Their are rumors that in few days EU will be closed for any transport with Russia, so do it fast. Or enjoy immigration to Georgia.

Image: probably most recent frontlines. Not sure about Czernihiv (look too good), but their are some photo confirmations about recapturing all or nearly all of bordr with Belarus west fron Dnieper river.

The ICJ doesn't handle war crimes. They handle disputes between countries. Such as US vs. Iran over the USS Vincennes shooting down an airliner. The US lost and paid Iran, eventually.

And because Russia's assets are overseas, those will be seized and used to pay Ukraine.

Lol jesus christ you are dumb
BBQing Salami took out Iran's best asset in the region who had pull with the militias. Your goldfish brain forgets that the US embassy had been getting rocketed by the same chucklefucks that guy was tard-herding. Reminder that Iran tried to raise a stink about it but failed because the guy was out of uniform, aka clearly up to some shit.It was a perfect relatiation. And zero civilians got zapped. It was a solid fucking win for anyone who doesn't rim the corpse of a child molester or so high on Orange Man Bad they can't admit he did something good.

The Kurds was more questionable, but the Kurds were wildin' outside of their bounds, they knew it, and that's why there wasn't a lot of Kurds screaming about the betrayal, just MSNBC and college commies. They were running guns from Syria to Kurdish enclaves in Turkey and Turkey was getting nervous.
The Kurds just like killing Turks, and they'll be allies with anyone who lets them do that.

Anyhow, close to 200k Crimean Tatars plus many Ukrainian speakers were variously expelled or not permitted to return. There is a small Tatar minority permitted to live in what was there home, while their former neighbors are replaced by new Russian colonists.

The Russians seemed to have killed a lot of pets in Bucha for some reason. Obviously murdering people was worse, but it suggests a certain depravity which has been seen in the past like with Katyn or in Germany of 1945 where people were not just killed but slaughtered in violent and degrading ways.

People can debate it all they'd like, but I seemed to notice a distinct lack of retaliation whenever trump blasted somebody. Makes me think they knew they were out of line.

The USSR collapsed over 30 years ago. I gave you a 40 year window to account for the tail end of the commie era. So yes, would you like to compare how many wars have been started by the two in that time frame or not? Remember this in reference to who is most dangerous to have on your borders in recent history...
Except again, the current leaders of Russia idolize the USSR, many of them are from the upper crust of Soviet society, and are even looking to rebuild said Soviet empire, even if it means sending the next Russian generation to their deaths.

It's not a benefit to my people.
It is a benefit to the people under the NATO umbrella. They get to spend less on the military while the Great American Policeman carries the lion's share of the burden. And it's as you said-it gives these local governments more money for things like education and welfare, which are a direct boon to the average common citizen.

Oh you're one of those people who doesn't believe the CIA is ever involved in conspiracies? Fascinating worldview.
Yes, how dare I require proof instead of blindly believing every piece of propaganda bullshit from the far right community.

You know it will be. Ukraine wants to get rebuilt with US dollars thy better start grooming their kids to be trannies or you can't have US taxpayer money.
Er, no. They haven't done that. In fact, some of the most loyal countries under the NATO umbrella like Poland are hilariously far-right, to the point where they bitch about how the rest of Western Europe have become decadent softies. The local European governments in the west are the ones experimenting with tranny shit, and they do that on their own accord. In fact, with all the Muslims they're importing, pretending like trannies would get their butts kicked in by their new working class.

Let's try it this way and get your thoughts:

"You retards claim in the same breath that Ukrainians did really throw out Yanukovych on their own accord, that it wasn't all orchestrated by some outside force, but the so-called Crimean referendum was totally illegitimate, and so is the separatist movement in Donbas."

Thoughts?
The only thought here is that we're seeing the Ukrainians fight tooth and nail against Russian invasion, whereas they protested against the pro-Russian Ukrainian government that the CIA "overthrew".

So if anything, if the CIA were involved, they were acting on the behest of the Ukrainian public who don't want to be Russia's bottom bitch again. And since the wounds Stalin inflicted upon them haven't healed yet, who can blame them?

Do you think the US would let Mexico join up with some defensive pact that allowed China to put military technology and bases near their border? Why do we all understand perfectly that the US would never let that happen, but then not see another country have similar concerns?
America already shipped a shit-ton of guns to Mexican druglords. I doubt Mexico getting cheap knockoffs of what the US has would even cause any alarm in the USA. More likely, they would just laugh, and the Mexican cartels would just fight over who gets the Chinese military hardware as they blow each other's brains out with it.

Yes exactly, NATO is a drain on my country which is why I want Europe to handle their own shit and wish my country would stay the fuck out of it. Meanwhile my tax dollars are going to be going to rebuilding Ukraine and making sure they're properly respecting faggotry of all sorts. So my government has been instigated this shit and funding it enough to keep it going long enough for maximum destruction so that there are nice sweet contracts in place for reconstruction, again - paid for by middle class taxpayers in the US.
And? Most Americans still vote to support NATO and the global world order, because it keeps the peace and it keeps trade going smoothly. Just because your opinion is different doesn't discount the opinions of liberals, Neo-Cons, and other Americans who aren't brain-bleached Libertarians who think the 1800s was some kind of golden age of American freedom.

And guess what? Presidents who have gone to war have gotten double terms. Clinton intervened in the Balkans-he got the approval of Congress during the late 90s. Bush II going off to war had the support of both the Republicans and the Democrats, and it was only when American troops got bogged down by hit-and-run attacks and infighting between Iraqi militias did the opinions of the people sour. And now, we see a near-universal support for Ukraine among American commoners, with only some retarded segments of the right being against US/NATO support for Ukraine. It's basically taken the attention away from Joe Biden's flaws and galvanized the country towards a goal they wish to strive for.

And don't pretend that middle-class taxpayers are the ones getting crucified the most because of this shit-the biggest payers have always been, and will always be, the big corporations, the rich upper crust and the 1%. And the military-industrial complex has brought tons of jobs and money to the populace as well; which in turn, increases tax revenue as more people get paid more to make weapons. So don't bullshit me and pretend that this whole drama of America supporting Ukraine is bad for the middle-class Americans. In fact, it could be a boon to those seeking jobs the more this war goes on.

Leftists under a republican president:
"The US is not the world police!"

Leftists under a democrat president:
"Everything that happens anywhere is our responsibility to police!"
If you haven’t learned by now that most midwits are entranced by the appeal of popularity, and cannot think beyond us/them mentality, you’re probably a midwit.

The entire Schtick is that they only pretend to think when they’re not in control, and blindly supporting “their” team no matter how self destructive it may be.

Basically, your average A&H tard that spergs out and then gets butthurt when people point out that they’re retarded.

And that's why I don't trust the far right when they tell us to stay out of the Ukraine/Russia war.

It sounds so much like those weenies back in the early 2000s and the Vietnam War who were one step away from being apologists for the enemy.

Modern Russia is no better than Saddam or the Viet Cong. In many ways, they're even worse. Especially once you see how Russians live and how they're conditioned to be slaves to the state, especially in the army where conscripts are raped and tortured (dedovschchina) into being loyal patsies of the state.

It's basically a real-world equivalent of Mordor.
