I think this is the only way that she will have bariatric surgery. No pesky psychotherapy and restrictive diets for weeks or months, and it is cheaper too. She knows that a regular diet will not work as it never worked. There are also clinics just outside Texas catering to Americans, so she would not even have to fly, just having a road trip with jade.

I think the quality of medicine in Mexico or other countries has been demonized a bit too much. You can have quality surgery outside the U.S. Someone I know was offered by his insurance company to have a hip replacement surgery done in India instead of the U.S. (Nevada). The company covered the cost of the flights, hotels, and incidentals for him and his wife, with no copay and no deductible.

As for Amber, I think a respectable establishment and surgeon would evaluate if she is a good candidate, and do the surgery if she is. My issue is that Amber is reticent to follow medical instructions and would undo the work of the surgeon.

That’s her only available option, yes, but not an option she is likely to take. If Amber doesn’t have the resolve to stick with a diet for more than a few days, what makes you think she would commit to spending weeks in Mexico for WLS? The pre-travel preparation, the post-op guidelines—she even fought to keep shoving food in her maw after her hysterectomy given how little weight she lost. Amber is also a giant baby and can’t stand to be out of her comfort zone. That’s why she took her “vacation” in a nowhere-ass Lexington barely a couple hours away just so she could stay in the hotel and make Becky bring her takeout from the same restaurants she had in Monticello.

I appreciate your optimism but there are no options for a fatty who isn’t going to budge.
