I dealt with a family member that was allegedly in an abusive relationship. My family was middle-class. No issues with abuse. This person was, for a time, very off the rails with an unstable job that happened to mesh with her unstable lifestyle (she was an alcoholic), and she found this guy who was practically a hoodlum. The man lied about his age and initially concealed that he had a baby mama and a son as old as me. They were in a relationship for a year, and somehow she didn't immediately leave even though things had allegedly progressed to physical domestic violence. I met the man-- he wasn't worth anything. It was obvious she stayed with him because he had a roof over his head and she couldn't keep one over hers by herself at the time. It was borderline embarrassing that she was talking about wanting to marry such a person, almost certainly because she figured it her permanent ticket out of her father's supposed oppressiveness and because she thought it would make her "grown".

holy shit. First of all, never felt particularly strong about abortion. I’ve gone back and forth, landing on pro-choice with restriction & encouraging social stigma/support to reduce abortions. well in hindsight if I was given a choice to relieve it all over again, I'd probably still be a drunk, but not let any man in my life during that low point in life. but again I was 20 and barely out of my teens, and kinda naive. probably make the drinking mistake but the man mistake would've been gone. if I didn't learn getting stupid black out drunk was never a good idea then I wouldn't have learned how to get it under control.
