According to a video interview with Separatist troops they've claimed the cechens are near useless and are just there to shoot at empty buildings and terrorize civilians

I mean, that's what Chechens do, so no surprise there. But they just seem to have so much damn fun doing it!

My guess is NATO coordinated the event and flew it directly there, or extracted it to Poland then flew it. It could even be a new flag made locally with artificial wear, because it doesn't really matter either way, its just symbolism.
