Having been here for both threads, both groups have had their fair share of seething dipshits.
I'm obviously a Russian shill and thus am biased but I do think there has been one seething dipshit who has outdone everyone else. DVKxAysUMAAtGuh.jpg

If Russia loses, or, more likely, suffers a pyrrhic victory in Ukraine, and then Finland joins NATO, which would likely cause Sweden to join in as well, we're in for a very entertaining Pro-Russia meltdown over the Summer. Won't really tip the balance, since Finland and Sweden are already Globohomo, but will piss Russia off.
Looks like it's too late for them to join the fight in the Donbass (which looks like it's gonna go hot very soon). Ukies have suffered terrible losses of armor and vehicles (some of their armored vehicles were hiding out under malls in Kiev).

Ukies have MANPADs and some degree of operational air force (?) in the West, but no plausible means to move large numbers of men to the eastern front now. They can trickle in some guys thru the back roads in ambulances and school buses, but that's not likely to be a lot. Can't bring heavy weapons in, because they'll be taken out by air or artillery. Ukies have also blown up a lot of bridges, which is the right thing to do when you're on the defensive, but a bummer when you'd like to counterattack.

Idk if the lines have been "static for the better part of a month", this isn't Verdun. Looks like very intense fighting and the Russians trundling on like a really shitty and rusty steamroller that will nonetheless kill you when it catches up. They've been capturing smaller cities and towns, places like Mariupol are a nightmare to capture when there's good numbers of defenders and your ROE is telling you not to simply flatten all the steel mills the locals will need if they're ever coming back to work.

The initial phase of Russian aggression by invading multiple directions simultaneously made sense in:

* Causing maximum confusion and panic in Ukrainian command
* Forcing the Ukies to retain significant forces West
* Giving the local militias and the Chechens breathing room to grind down localized pockets of resistance without much danger of Ukie tank columns suddenly appearing

Them adjusting their positions now to deprecate Kiev and emphasize Donbass might be a failure, but the official Russian explanation makes sense (except the "goodwill gesture" bit, that was just a lie) and it doesn't look like they're going to fail to consolidate Donbass. Once they do that, Western Ukraine is gonna be in an even worse position - unless they really do have the Riders of Rohan at their back by dawn's early light. There'd be not much (militarily) stopping Russia from squeezing the West the same way they did the east and south, yet Ukraine won't be allowed to sign a peace treaty, the West is ready to fight this out till the last hohol. Sucks.
Biggest issue Russia faces is they only sent 200k troops max and seem dead set on not committing more Russian troops (Mercs and Chechens are free game however), assuming they sent that max of 200k, it's not a leap at all to assume at least 25k of those are either dead, wounded, or captured at this point, might even be conservative depending on who you believe.

I'm convinced the only city besides Mariupol Russia is realistically seriously thinking about taking at this point is Kharkiv, maybe Zaporizhzhia but that's going to be a lot trickier to encircle thanks to being divided by the Dnieper and encircling is mandatory for a city of it's size given over a month and a half to ready it's defenses.

Russia wouldn't have completely pulled out of Kiev and the northeastern front if it mainly served as a pinning of Ukrainian troops there. It was Russia moving all it's troops to the only significantly successful front to salvage something that could be called a victory.

Also is it bullshit western propaganda that russia has thus far failed to win a war on its doorstep against a vastly outmatched opponant after like 6 weeks? Asking for a joyboy.
The US couldn't win two wars against vastly outmatched foes this century, why would Russia have any better luck? In one of those wars it had a full deployment of NATO and still ended up getting humiliated with a Saigon tier airlift out of the country. Effective weaponry moves around the world too easily for these 19th century land annexations and puppet nation shit to work. Every war is going to be an endless meat grinder, Russia just isn't capable of obfuscating the massive losses in Ukraine the way the US did with the ARVN, IA, and ANSF taking most of the KIA. Coalition and Iraqi forces took around 205k casualties between 2003-2017 when ISIS was declared neutralized and its about 75k KIA in Afghanistan, no idea on actual Afghani casualties numbers but I would suspect they're staggering and most had poor outcomes because of the dogshit nature of their medical care.

No nation on earth would be able to wrestle Ukraine into submission so quickly, even the US military which is suffering severe manpower issues for its actual combat wings. You can supplement with technology a fair bit, but eventually you're going to need a guy with a rifle to kick down doors and the US is seriously slim in this front. Its very probable that the US be incapable of doing the same the same deployment numbers as Russia for Ukraine (150-200k) without bringing the reserves and national guard in on an indefinite basis like it did with the Iraq War. The US was running stop-loss until 2011 because it was overstretched so much by the Iraq War.

No major nation has "won" a proper war this century. Russia nibbled off a few provinces that were highly pissed off with their host nations but almost every campaign globally has been an unmitigated fiasco leading to a decade long meat grinder usually leading to a failed state host to endless paramilitary and terrorist groups vying for control.

I suspect you got outed in /ugh/.
For those unaware: I want to apologise in advance if it's a bit too off-topic, but I thought I could lighten the mood with some old school funny 4chan Internet bitchfight. There is currently a civil war taking place on /pol/ between the pro-Russian /chug/ (Comfy Happenings in Ukraine General) and the pro-Ukrainian /uhg/ (Ukraine Happening General). /chug/ is mostly a memeposting, shitposting and waifuposting place that at one point successfully trolled a journo from Reuters.

/uhg/ on the other hand is frequented by fatsos, trannies and homosexual bottoms that can't even do intra-board raids properly.

When the Ukrainians were having their first legit Ws in the war, /uhg/ was all kinds of euphoric and having the time of their lives, ready to smug at /chug/... that is until that one Ukrainian commander got arrested while having sex with a tranny, undoing /uhg/'s hurrah. /chug/ used this to completely and irreparably buckbreak them.

While I'm staunchly neutral in regards to this war, I am as of now full on Team /chug/ when it comes to /pol/. :story:

I read the threads when I'm in bed before I fall out but yeah that was hilarious.

2ch Русско-украинской спецоперации тред is better tho

Yeah, cost will be passed to the taxpayers as usual, in all countries involved. As for the military being rebuilt by NATO, who knows. If shit pops off in the Balkans (Serbs real unhappy about Vucic's vote today, Kosovo getting close to Albania, Republika Srpska making noise, etc), NATO may have a problem on another front very soon and may not have resources to put towards Ukraine.
Nothing is going to pop off in the balkans for some very simple reasons.

1. A lot of powerful people (including politicians) are running rackets and money laundering schemes in that region and they'll make sure those don't get disrupted.

2. Everyone is getting foreign gibs and a war would again disrupt that. No one wants that.

3. Everyone would get their shit pushed in period because everyones armed forces are garbage in the region. Serbia has been "modernizing" with chinashit and russoshit, and i'm sure their modernization efforts or on paar with russian modernization where they give the new stuff to a couple battalions and call it a day. Greece is still using soviet shit they haven't even bothered modernizing but they have conscription so at least they'd have numbers. Romania is a joke. Macedonia is a joke. Albania has attempted multiple modernization efforts that have failed with a few exceptions in small arms. No active armor units, no active jet units, questionable AA capabilities and the inactive equipment they do have has been in storage since like the 00' with no one trained in them probably unless they start pulling 60 year olds out of retirement. Croatia and Bulgaria have had more successful modernization efforts but i'd still consider them sub paar. Kosovo has the kosovo security force which has probably the most modern infantry in the region, but thats it, just infantry.

4. Too many hidden weapon depos and national spirit for any land grab to not result in years long insurgent action or partisans if you want to be nice.

5. Foreign powers would get immediately involved.

Really? Because I seem to recall the US having occupied every major city and gained effective and literal control of both countries without even a fraction of the casualties or combat losses by week six despite both countries being inhospitable militant filled hellholes on the other side of the planet

You wanna argue that the years of standing around as glorified mall cops waiting for both shitshow societies to unfuck themselves was a failure then sure thing, but russia has yet to achieve any of the operational success after 43 days that the US managed in the first 3 days during both Iraq and Afghanistan despite ukraine being on its doorstep and russia surrounding ukraine on three sides
In one of those wars it had a full deployment of NATO and still ended up getting humiliated with a Saigon tier airlift out of the country. Well thats funny because we saw the same shit happen in the gulf war despite no mass conscript army on side at the time. Also nice attempt to spin the ineptitude and failure of afghan/iraq militaries as being proof the US army sucked
No nation on earth would be able to wrestle Ukraine into submission so quickly
Which makes russia a thousand times more retarded for attempting if true

Well thankfully any future war looks to be bereft of any long term occupation and be more of the desert storm style of war, and most of them likely will just involve training and arming local homies to kick the shit out of russia and maybe china a few years down the line

/pol/ is just a containment board for political spergs, who get even worse when you filter them down to their in-groups where they will say repeat the most absolutely batshit takes with no pushback. Genuinely a cesspool, even for the site's standards. It was a mistake to bring it back.

Even if it was on the downslope before, the 2016 infiltration of it destroyed it utterly. There were redditers, glowies, and all manner of discord degenerates flooding in every time that dude Rachael Maddow shouted "Pepe!"

Oh no not the communist monumentarinos!!!

We really gonna weep because the memorials to the red army at ground zero of its 1945 rape spree are getting a bunch of paint limply thrown at them?

Is this really where people here are at now?
Russia really can't have it both ways. If Ukraine is nazi, then the red army were not liberators.

Judging by this, I don't think Russia really can commit more troops without admitting this is a war, not a "special operation". Everything else they might be able to use is either tied down on defensive commitments elsewhere in the country, or they can't legally use it without a general mobilization. Even if they do declare war and mobilize it'll take time to train or retrain people into a functional fighting force. Putin mobilized basically everything he could mobilize at the start of this, which is probably part of why some people were convinced he'd actually invade.

The whole site's culture is pretty much dead. Imo once moderation stops regularly posting on a site on this side of the internet and just become nameless faggots with a ban hammer, it's time to ditch said site.
