Monuments and statues are just forms of petty temporal idolatry. The fact that a monument is longstanding speaks to it being an enduring image and symbol to the people who identify with it or perhaps that it is so forgotten and uncared for that nobody can even be bothered to tear it down. It doesn't mean that literally every monument erected has some ingrained right to remain standing long after all the people who gave a shit have since moved on or died.

Maybe I should build a monument somewhere topped with a 100x larger-than-life replica of my stretched open anus and see if you'd defend the right for that to exist.

I mean I look at this war like the Russo Finnish war. Ukraine will lose Territory regardless. But any Ukraineian left west of the Dnipe river is a victory at this point. So in that sense I see Ukraine getting Russia to the table to deal if they are least make it costly enough.
