President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Probably, but I wouldn't be surprised if the poor guy committed suicide by gunshot wounds from the back.
If that happens, then you know Putin is livid - Peskov is his close friend. But some Russians are already calling him traitor and demand his head, shooting the messenger: they think it was his decision to retreat from Kiev.

>Technologically advanced invader
>thwarted by horrible supply lines and stupid tactics
>Worship a Russian man
Were the Russians just clanners this whole time?
Illegal Warfare.png

Seems so, given Putin's bitching about aid shipments.
I guess that means he wants a country but one with no laws?

Or maybe he got one tattoo after the other? That seems the most likely, the question is which came first.
Both at the same time, even. Vodka is a hell of a drug.

And for something actually informative...

Yep. Good for tracking down all thieves, no matter their nationality or the circumstances in which it was taken. Yet more evidence Russians are just the joggers of Europe.

Alleged killing of captured Russians by members of the Georgian Legion in the wake of a successful ambush on retreating Russian. I would note some twit on the other thread characterised the Georgian Legion as 'Reddit Army' when in fact they've been operating since 2014. This ambush on a convoy at Dmytrivka, seven miles SW of Bucha shows they can do the job, but some might be failing to uphold high standards in respect of the Geneva Convention. It certainly seems a crime was committed, obviously not comparable to Bucha, but among the victims were wounded but living men shot repeatedly until dead.

NYT Live thread including the post (it's the NYT so hopefully they actually verified their footage)

I do hope that Zelensky holds true to his word and has these men prosecuted. This seems far more solid as videos and details go, and apparently they speak Ukranian. Interesting apparent use of language "Marauders" etc.

Looking at their BMD-2 as well, however, there is evidence they had looted supplies. There's a water cooler bottle and other bits and pieces such as a civillian backpack tied to their vehicle, which puts them firmly into "committed a war crime" and "fair game" territory.

Regardless, its probably a good idea to make an example or two on the Ukie side just to send the necessary message.

Run Forrest, run!

The guy legged it, and supposedly shot at the drone, surely it was 1) Low enough to be noticable and 2) He would've told someone which got to their CO's ears to move their shit?

Wouldn't you?

Russians are just shelling everything in the direction of the planned attack, most people refuse to evacuate until they see their neighbors get torn apart in the explosion or a nearby house blow up, so it's been slow.

I just thought it was funny. I hope artillery strike reached them before they could move.

A really good, well researched piece on where this is all going and why. Also looking at where the endgames may lie.
Oh, that explains the state of modern Russia, they fucked their education sector instead of cutting back on nukes.

Russia is ran by absolute retards.

I just finished watching it myself, this is more of a doomer take for sure. His analysis of the economical and historic factors is good, but his predictions seem to fall apart.
According to him, it's merely a matter of time before Russia absorbs Ukraine, despite being repelled on most fronts and forcing them to fight for the consolation prize. All the while Russia faces economic challenges and isolation.

I won't lie I'm tired of going on the internet and seeing comments going "Globohomo guys!!!!!, don't trust them. Russia isn't that bad" after seeing slaughter of innocents.
Can you post a link or screenshot the next time you see this, excepting /pol/? Thanks.

Without a doubt these characters should be prosecuted. Although it is easy to say, rage and anger cannot justify enormities. Quite possibly they could have attached themselves to the Georgian Legion who are described as spearheading the ambush. Acts like this will weaken Western resolve and create a moral equivalence.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Russia is just fucked. They are the East-European Africa.

This video was posted on March 25, a full two weeks ago, exact, from today. A lot has changed since this vid was posted, and, to be fair, most people were predicting the exact same results when all this started. I don't think anyone predicted that the Russians would perform this poorly.

Perhaps Russian invaders never deserved mercy to begin with. I've been hearing dehumanizing rhetoric toward Ukrainians from Russian media and people in general for at least 8 years now, and their actions thus far have proven that it wasn't just words, there's a corresponding intent behind them.
It's not like Russian military came to Ukraine for a vacation They've been killing civilians since day one, I posted a well documented account of that earlier in the thread, literally happened on February 24th.

Surely you don't believe that Russia is treating Ukrainian POW's well. Ones they were willing to exchange were beaten and abused, like those women they humiliated by shaving them (all things considered, they were among the lucky ones).
Need I remind you that Russia never respected human rights, even when it comes to their own citizens? And after seeing what they're doing to civilians, do you really believe that Ukrainian soldiers would be treated according to international rules? Russia only invokes said rules when it benefits them, not because they care in any way whatsoever.
They've been the ones who escalated this conflict, ends justify the means in their eyes. Ukraine at the very least cares about its appearance as a European nation, and striving to uphold these standards. But they're fighting an overwhelming force that disregards all decency.

I'm not saying this on behalf of Ukrainians, but as a Russian who's been dealing with Russians all his life.

Yeah, I've noticed. Would be interesting to hear their thoughts after the recent developments.
At the very least that video is useful for its analysis, predictions always have a chance of missing the mark.

Ukrainians say 26 civilians civilians murdered in Borodyanka. Possibly included is a civilian who was left groaning in the rubble of his home. Phone post, so no fancy link magic.

The old menace of a full mobilisation might be a thing. The numbers of young men are far smaller and it would mean an economic mess in a country which isn't quite at the stage of a resource exporter with otherwise a lumperproletariat and peasant population, like Algeria maybe. However, a germophobic dictator is likelier to attempt a full Soviet or Tsarist mobilisation as a back to the wall measure rather than the suicide of nuclear war. Maybe. RT carry a story that Russia hopes to wrap up in a few days. Maybe a pre Victory mobilisation and offensive.

I suppose the hope is Ukraine in all its difficulties can set a higher standard of conduct towards POWs. That is surely a mark of civilisation. I hope the filtration camp civilians are okay and any children taken are returned. I hope.

A full mobilization would finish off the Russian economy by draining whatever manpower they have left. It would also destroy the fiction that Russia has currently cultivated in their own country that this is not a war but a "special military operation".

In this thread:

>I hate Russia
>Now let me advocate for all the things that made Russia awful in the first place

For all your talk about how bad the right and libertarians are, you're equally retarded to advocate for shit that was an active detriment to everyone under the USSR.
But those things will work in other countries! If Vladimir Lenin had his revolution in America instead of Russia we would have the glorious communist utopia that Karl Marx promised in his writings!

It's totally Russia's fault that communism didn't work and not the fault of communism itself!

Yeah, the attitude was always that Ukraine is weak, not even considered a real opponent, with Russia being a peer to the likes of US ("That we only haven't destroyed because we don't feel like it"). Hence the meme about taking Kiev in 2-3 days, a lot of regular Russians seriously thought that.
At this point it became impossible to hide the failures of the "special military operation",just by the virtue of the fact that it's still ongoing, so they're trying to sell pro-Putin Russians something less than a wholesale conquest of Ukraine they hoped for.
Putin's press secretary is already being accused by vatniks of treachery because he delivered the news of Russian forces retreating from Kiev (omitting the fact that they were actually pushed out). Putin himself did nothing wrong, though, he'll remain competent and irreplaceable in their eyes, it's all someone else's fault, it's all those idiots under him who fails to follow his wise directives.

If these people see that the emperor has no clothes, Putin's regime would collapse. The problem is that many of them gouged out their own eyes, figuratively speaking.
But getting crushed by Ukraine might just return them the gift of sight.

Russians always used to troll us like "POOR HOHOLS! THE NATION OF PROSTITUTES AND TOILET CLEANERS RUSSIA STRONK".

Glad to see that it has been (what I knew all along) proven as impotent seething, shame that an average Russian is unironically less intelligent than a nigger.

They have no real direction as a nation, without bitterness they have no national idea. So the only way for them to cope with existential dread is to drag everyone else down with them into filth.
