I spoke with the U.S State department to verify death statistics (not recorded but it sounded like a call center and a moron who had no idea), a funeral director in the area of Japan where the "allegations" state he did it to verify the process of contacting the embassy in the event of a death of a US national, the Tokyo police in the ward he "allegedly" roped himself, and the US embassy for Tokyo.

The response... No US citizen died in that area, in that month, on that day.

I would say this is all more legitimate than the proof of Byuu's actual death, which was some random images with no context, a document in a google drive, and a guy with a cookie jar that had a name. So, it's essentially confirmed that Byuu is alive, and it was one big gayop.

Japan is a pretty xenophobic country despite been a tourist trap, so that isn't an impossible situation. But what the hell, if Byuu wanted to retire in peace by moving back to the US and getting a job at Subway then it kind of makes sense, leaving the emulation community to fight each other over it.

There is one possibility that i've considered, and that could be maybe that Byuu faking his death was intentional. The one who reported it - Hector - is pushing a buggy and unstable port of Linux (Asahi) for modern Macs running ARM processors. Starting a pity party is a great way to get attention to his project. Especially as Asahi Linux is a shoddy piece of software that was released far too soon just to grab attention. Its like releasing a brand new car without fitting windows or doors, just to keep riding the hype train before it dies down. And adding a tribute to Ayrton Senna despite him having absolutely nothing to do with it.

It could also have been to start a huge bitchfight between Retroarch and the rest of the Emulation community, but that happens all the time.

I was quite disgusted. I wrote the new sources and editors of several larger outlets than ran the story - and wrote the writers too.

They just completely ignored the messages and emails regarding this. Primarily the problem was as with USA Today, that a contributor writer wrote the piece and not one of their in-house journalists. Still, to get no response was pretty disgusting.

Shouldn't be that hard... but he may be in the US as well... why look for a white boy in the middle of Ohio? Found some information updated March as of this year... don't know how correct it is.
