President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

The Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND), Germany’s foreign intelligence service, has acquired gruesome new insights into the atrocities committed by Russian military forces. DER SPIEGEL has learned that the BND has new satellite images and has intercepted incriminating radio traffic from Russian military personnel in the region north of Kyiv, where Bucha is located. Some of the intercepted radio traffic might be linked to dead bodies that have been photographed in Bucha.

Following the withdrawal of the Russian military from the town over the weekend, a mass grave was discovered as well as the bodies of several dozen dead civilians left lying on the streets. The hands of some of the victims had been tied, while other bodies showed signs of torture. Numerous women and children are also reportedly among the victims.

The Russian government has vehemently denied that Russian forces are responsible for these war crimes. Several – completely unsubstantiated – claims have been made that the alleged war crimes have been staged by Ukraine. Those claims, however, are contradicted by the statements of numerous witnesses interviewed by reporters from DER SPIEGEL and other news outlets in the town of Bucha.
But remember guys the only reason the war has gone on so long is because the Russians are trying to minimize civilian casualties....

Problem is at this point people should be wondering if those nukes would end up just exploding in their silos if they tried using them given the state of disrepair everything Russian apparently is.
This is ironically something that Redditors called out from the beginning of the war, it'd be funny if it turned out they were right.

suppoably a vid of a russian soldier recording a message for his bud about him raping an infant ... I think it's in Russian, I don't want to watch it, just dropping it here for verification

You could show me a video of russian soldiers being flayed at this point and I wouldn't give a fuck or call it anything but "had it coming".

Nothing justifies those fucking apes and their behaviour, russians have a hell of a national legacy to look forward to. Everything they said about Ukrainians is industrial grade projection.

It's not the 40s anymore, none of the shit these fucks do will get as easily memory holed as the fucked up shit red army did unless they legitimately glass everything.

Also nice of them to record their fucking war crimes themselves, retards in kremlin must be elated at the IQ level of their troops as they desperately try to deny the last month even happened.

Anonymous threaten to release secrets after claiming to have hacked the Kremlin

Digital vigilante group Anonymous claims to have hacked into the Kremlin's CCTV system and are threatening to release its secrets.

A Twitter account associated with the group posted an update from hackers within the organization The Black Rabbit World along with supposed CCTV footage of Kremlin employees going about their days.

The short video received over 300,000 views.

"We won't stop until we reveal all of your secrets. You won't be able to stop us. Now we're inside the castle, Kremlin," said a quote from the group.

Hackers in the group have been sharing any information they can find while hacking the Kremlin's internal system and using it to play jokes on officials.

Notably, the group recently broadcasted the meme 'troll face' onto Russian military radios, hacked into Russian gas pumps to broadcast information about the war, and hacked into the Russian state television program to share live footage of Ukraine.

The recent CCTV hack is just one of many the group has conducted since Russia began invading Ukraine in an effort to pressure Putin to stop waging war in Ukraine and inform Russian citizens of the horrors being conducted.

The group recently leaked footage of atrocities conducted by the Russian military and the names of Russian soldiers associated with potential war crimes committed in Bucha.

From leaking emails and databases to trolling Russian officials, the group that famously waged cyber war against Putin and his allies seems to be holding true to its word.

"JUST IN: Hackers who operates in behalf of #Anonymous gained access to the Kremlin CCTV system. They quoted: "We won't stop until we reveal all of your secrets. You won't be able to stop us. "Now we're inside the castle, Kremlin." #OpRussia #Ukraine"

This honestly just looks like cameras in various board rooms that would be used for remote conferencing and so unlikely to be very secure to begin with as that shit was set up very hastily in the wake of covid remote work crap.

It would be both hilarious if anything of value was actually stored on a server that's connected to the global internet but I doubt that, hell, I could believe it if someone told me that sensitive documents are only written and copied via type writers and dumb terminals. We'll see I guess.

>the west is having food riots and is gonna collapse any day now, trust the plan!

Isn't the old soviet joke "They're giving us all planes and televisions so that when we see on television that a store has butter we can get in our planes and fly there"?

Well it's not like they're going to be getting too many new iPhones or other western brand electronics to secure in those, might as well put them to use somewhere. It sure does look comical though.

Prices aren't THAT bad, especially for a nation that's going to have a lot of extra disposable income they won't be spending on too many western goods.

It's also the funny thing, many people talk about how ruble has recovered and doing better then ever but there was a time I believe RUB to USD was 1 to 1, it's nice and all but what good is a strong currency when all you can buy for it is locally produced shit? With how many western businesses moved out ruble is once again becoming a closed-loop in-game currency.

I wonder if Russia is going to start having "special" stores where you can buy imported western goods, for $ (or BTC or anything but RUB), those were very popular in USSR and it's satelites back in the day.

Again, if they're going to act like animals, they should be treated like animals. And to think there were people here who were complaining that they were getting the Mafia treatment from the locals.

I just went to my local neighborhood food store two days ago. They weren't short of anything, nor was there any drastic price increases.

And what could Annonymous leak that they don't already openly do and/or celebrate?

Aussie defence analyst and gamer Perun discussing who is winning. The answer would be Ukraine for most, but he tries to show it from both angles, and how Russia could win, but he thinks they won't achieve it, given their losses and the support for Ukraine and the limited support Russia provides to its own war. Will be covering how a long war will be very bad for Russia. And rearmament of various countries including Germany, without forgetting the games. Intends to create a Perun gaming channel.

I'm not going to dig for the post but butter was stolen from humanitarian supplies for Ukrainians 2-3 weeks ago and replaced with styrofoam so the boxes they came in looked to still be full.
Butter seems to be a high commodity item over there.

It more than hints that the dairy industry in Russia wasn't up to much before this war, even though supposedly they produced c. 6% of the world's raw milk output. Why is it that key industries seemed to wither under sanctions? The season appears to be a mix of dependency on imports for key inputs, but also a rapidly declining purchase power among Russians, who seem less able to consider more processed dairy like yogurt.

I can top that.

Russians filled bags with radioactive dirt and made a defensive fortified firing position right next to the 4th (the one that blew up) block of Chernobyl nuke station.

I'm not sure what's more dumb, making a nest out of radioactive dirt or expect someone trying to storm the radioactive ruins.

Maybe Putin was trying to create Super Mutants. They might do better than plain ol' gopniks.
