Community Tard Baby General (includes brain dead kids) - Fundies and their genetic Fuckups; Parents of corpses in denial

That happened to my biomom; apparently her mother freaked the fuck out when she learned I was being put up and did everything short of a lawsuit to get her to change her mind.
Strangely my bio grandmother has the opposite problem with her Roman Catholic family. She was forced to give my mother up for adoption, regardless of her thoughts and feelings on the matter. Might've been because she was 17, but still.

I kind of feel bad reacting in disgust to these kids. It's not their fault they're the way they are, but I couldn't justify bring something like Paisley or Jaxon Strong into the world. There's already enough suffering in this gay planet as it is.

.Then we've also got the special cases like Dugan Sherbondy, whose kid fell off a golf cart and suffered a brain injury that left her in a permanent coma and he kept insisting that his homeboy Jesus was going to completely heal her any day now and getting angrier and angrier when He failed to come through.
That reminds me of Michael Morones. Brony who hanged himself when he was 11 years old because he was bullied relentlessly at school and got in a fight with his brother. Mom found him soon enough that he was still alive, but too late to avert brain damage. He was probably near brain dead. Mom may have been scamming Bronies out of their money by keeping him alive. But what I'm pretty sure happened, judging by the allocation of resources for him, and how he looked in videos, was that he scored just enough on brain activity tests and reactions to not be declared brain dead. There are videos of him clearly blinking and moving his head. Clear brain death in the US requires even the brain stem to shut down. Blinking means the brain stem is at least somewhat functional, so pulling the plug requires a DNR (which a kid wouldn't have) or the next of kin have to petition a court. Normally the judge will grant it for PVS, but that's assuming the family asks for it. Parents just couldn't let him go.

I check in with Eva and her crazy father occasionally, so when he talks about Eva being “better” he’s referring to her constantly yo-yoing back and forth into hospital with infections and complications, not the actual brain injury. Seems he’s given up on her being fully and miraculously healed by God.

I don’t think her brain is going to recover much more than it already has. It’s been a while since the accident. Poor kid.
It’s a bit hard to understand what’s really going on in between his mopey posts and then his totally bro-pastor posts.

I don’t understand though, when the dad refers to her getting “better”, can she actually make a recovery with her brain? Or is this it, forever
This is it, forever. Basically, the level of neurological function a patient with severe traumatic brain injury has at one year post injury is the maximal level they will attain. Slight improvement is possible for years, but the vast majority of the recovery happens within the first twelve months. Children have an advantage, because young brains are more plastic and are therefore more able to create new neural pathways, but that plasticity is not unlimited, and the longer it's been since the injury, the less likely it is that the patient will recover lost function.

Eva had a lot of early indicators of poor outcome, including a low Glasgow Coma Scale score, a prolonged coma, severe intracranial hypertension, a vascular injury, and vegetative state upon admission to a rehabilitation facility. Unfortunately, this is pretty much the best Eva's life will get. There is no surgical intervention, medication, or therapy that will bring back the Eva her parents once knew.

As an added note, chronic pancreatitis is associated with excruciating pain and can itself be fatal.

Jesus, I really hate her dad.

They don't give a damn about the child's suffering,it's about them being Martyrs.

People with thanatophoric dysplasia have “profound mental retardation”. I’m putting that in quotes because that is what it is actually medically called. It means that they have an IQ of 20 or less. They are non-verbal. They cannot eat or swallow normally because of their anatomy, so must be on a feeding tube from birth to the rest of their life. They’ll never sit up. They’ll never walk. They cannot grasp anything with their hands. Their heads and brains are deformed - furthering their neurological issues.

I actually find it to be a blessing, that she’ll never be able to fully comprehend anything.

There is one special case where a man has normal intelligence and recently graduated from a good college with a degree in Journalism, but he is the first and only one so far to display no brain damage and have normal intelligence. All other cases of TD have shown profound mental retardation and neurological damage (like Samuel Mann and PrayersforPaisley).
That..makes me feel better, actually. I'm happy she will truly never 'know' what her life should be like.

The guy with normal intelligence probably has some rare subtype. Rare subtype of a rare disorder means he might be the only such person in the world.
Most disorders have some less severe variant. Sometimes the less severe version is actually rarer. Stuff like mosaic Downs vs Downs, Becker muscular dystrophy vs Duchenne, mosaic kleinfelter, etc.

And technically thanatophoric dysplasia is caused by having an extra copy of the same gene that causes the most common form of dwarfism, which of course is a perfectly survivable condition that doesn't affect IQ or lifespan at all. Which still blows my mind.
A particular FGFR3 mutation also causes a subtype of Crouzon syndrome, which causes severe craniofacial abnormalities but not short stature or intellectual disability. Most Crouzon syndrome is caused by a mutation in FGFR2, though.

Genetics is so mind-blowing.

I'm pretty sure this is a progerian but still

If they're almost all like Paisley, could it actually be that they all have severe brain damage from constant low oxygen levels? Because you don't have to straight up stop breathing for that to happen, and it seems like that when Paisley is actually breathing she's never getting nearly enough oxygen. So could the difference between the one normal guy with TD vs everyone else be that his lungs are just developed enough that he's avoided profound brain damage and death?

Part of me thinks it might be fear that their parents will find out and 'force' the woman to keep it, or maybe an abusive ex-boyfriend who had coerced her into sex or raped her, I could see such a type like that suing her for daring to put the baby up for adoption.

Which makes me wonder if in these upcoming restrictive 'pro-life' states the family of the boyfriend or rapist might try to do that, to sue her if she gives it up to a Safe Haven. People too often nowadays seem to lose their shit and piss on the mother if she decides she wants to give a baby up for adoption, so I wouldn't be surprised either if that happened.
I used to live in a small city in Illinois, which has Safe Haven laws. Last I heard, more than 100 babies had been officially surrendered, ALIVE, and legally adopted. Over the years, I attended events at the junior high, high school, and both colleges (a CC and a university) and they had signs promoting SHL in the bathrooms.

I also remember a story from the early to mid 00s about someone in Florida wanting to pass a law requiring that women who were wishing to adopt out their babies, and couldn't locate the father, to take out an ad in the paper attempting to find him. (More than one woman, upon finding out about this, had an abortion.) Anyway, CNN did a panel discussion with (hang onto your seats, folks, this one's a doozy) Dr. Drew Pinsky, the then-president of NOW, and Rev. Jerry Falwell. I cannot find it online, but I did see it, and it was probably the only situation where everyone on a panel like this would ITA. Falwell said that his ministry ran some shelters for homeless pregnant women, and I remember the number 1,200 in there (IIRC, it was the number of women they served in an average year) and they had NEVER, NOT ONCE had a father show up wanting to assert any rights to his baby.

There are a couple pictures where paisley looks so, well, fake I don't even register her as human. Like that one picture of her dad holding her, it just has the same feeling to me of special effects artist holding a movie puppet.
Let's not forget those horrible clips where they dress her up in a costume. That one with her dressed like an elf looking miserable while her dumb dad moved her around like she's dancing. They know better!

Also what could be contributing to the increase in autism and other forms of retardation. Is that a lot of women are waiting until their late 30s to have a kid. I know the risk for having a child with a disability rises with the mothers age. I’m all for women pursuing an education but they should look into freezing their eggs when they’re in their 20s.

Yeah, that's a progeroid disorder of some sort, most likely Hutchinson Gilford progeria syndrome. Really sad because he very likely has normal intelligence and is capable of understanding his fate. Poor little bugger. ❤️

Do you know how much it costs to store cryopreserved oocytes, much less to do anything with them? The increase in autism diagnoses has been covered extensively in this thread, including within the last few pages.

Yeah, making sure that women are forced to conceive via IVF surely outweighs the spurious advantages of “young” eggs.

Besides, isn’t freezing eggs kind of sketchy? I was under the impression that whereas frozen embryos defrost pretty well and become successful pregnancies, defrosted eggs aren’t always in good enough shape to fertilise.

yeah it's kind of a toss up tbh, sometimes the genetic material is just, not viable anymore so you get heartbroken mothers who genuinely tried all avenues and it just doesn't work out

That isn't from women, that is actually from men. After the early 40s, men will often have an increase in chromosomal mutations that bring a higher risk of siring a child with autism. It is for this reason sperm banks will not accept sperm from donors over the age of forty. With 40+ year old women, they will offer semen from donors in their 20s. Down' s Syndrome is also twice as likely with older men, hence why the 'younger' sperm for an older woman.

There are often a lot of jokes made about older women and their 'rotten' eggs, but just as much the fault lies with the man being too old.
