Here is the thing, no compromise was ever offered. Three days into the invasion, the Ukrainean side opened the peace talks with "You give back Crimea, withdraw all your troops and stop recognizing Donbass".
Given that all of those territories were taken by Russian troops, I'd not say this is unresonable.

If they think crimea is part of Ukraine, they have to say this durring negotiation. Otherwise they are giving it up from strat.

Maybe you should get Poland to do the negotiations. Let’s see how well that turns out.

Dude, do you realize if they wont say "you have to get out Crimea, Donbass, Luhansk", they are automatically forfiting their claims for this land?

And all of that without even Russia having to take controll over it?

At first, i have to admit i thought this would only last 2 to 3 weeks, but now i'm open to the actual possibility of this dragging out for months, and the issue with that is the longer this drags out, the bigger the chances are for fuckups to happen that lead to worse situations than what we have going on rn.
And there is also an awful lot of ammo and weapons that's been missing.
We've seen a few funny vids of farmers with tanks and a Z-Lada with 2 MANPADS on top of the roof but there are also vids from Kiev where they just
hand out AKs and mags to anybody who wants one. No questions asked, no registration necessary.
A few days ago the Ukrainian army left a village and they left a shitload of weapons + ammo behind: machine guns, hand grenades and manpads.

What will happen with these weapons after the war?
Both sides have a few autistic and radical spergers who might be unhappy of how things went and decide to take the terrorist path.
It's not that difficult to imagine what such groups are capable of with a bunch of stingers and manpads.

That’s just it, the US should propose it, and we should try our best to bury the hatchet with Russia, otherwise, they will rightfully not trust the US intentions.
You're talking absolute nonsnese.
First of, Russia has almost 0 standing on the world stage anymore. Everything they say is righteous is a joke.
Second, where do you get the idea that Russia wants peace and that if the US proposes it they'll listen? This is absolute far Western madness mentality to think that Putin's regime works rationally like that.
The US should absolutely increase its barking and start promising the world to Ukraine, even if without intent to keep those promises. That is the only way to deal peace with Russia, it's through a show of strength. They respect nothing less.

This is the plan you choose if you want an even bigger war. Anyone telling you this is the peaceful option is lying.

Fortunately for the stingers at least, they have about 5 years tops before their proprietary battery goes out and it's only useful for whatever explosives you can get from the missile itself. I image its probably similar for the more advanced ATGMs.

Hey, maybe do you have any more stories about kids who live in your head rent free for 10-20 years? :story:
Yes, the fatty keeps blabbing even through a blood-flooded mouth until he starts sobbing and pleading.

I would expect a similar display from the Ukraine once they realize they are just as much of an expendable asset as the Kurds were.

"Just give up your only leverage and we'll totally lift the sanctions. Trust us bro."
When the US says that could lift sanctions, it means that they actually dont want to lift the sanctions. Because they want to earn less money.

This makes sense somehow.

...a little late, but there is a Rossiyan bill that says that anyone who knows Rossiyan is a Rossiyan compatriot.
(The news is in Rossiyan.)

Freak outs ensue.

Julia Davis said:
Guys and gals, I have a personal favor to ask. Please don't tell anyone that I speak Russian. Heaven forbid Putin would consider me his "compatriot" and send his goons to "liberate" my neighborhood.
Loki Ate My Cat said:
I was using Duolingo to learn Russian before all this began... I only know a little. Now I'm learning Ukrainian 💙💛🌻 Screw you, Putin.

Hobo Wonder said:
This is not an incentive to learn Russian and live abroad. Your country could be "liberated" with bombs at any minute on the whims of those who believe they are saving Russian speakers. @duolingo should remove the Russian language, just in case.

People are retaliating by learning Ukraïnian instead, of course.

You don't understand.
Putin and his russian cronies are not that retarded that they'd actually risk a bigger war, but only if their enemy is ferocious enough to fight back and shows its teeth.
It is difficult to explain, but it is a very bestial mentality with Russia. You either yell and pump your chest, hen they will back off, otherwise you do this peace talk bullshit that you're suggesting and that Germany has been trying to do, but which has only blown up in everyone's face.
Trump understood this and that's why when he was in office, the worst that Putin did was bomb kids in Syria along with the CIA cronies for globo-turf.
Ukraine is something different though.

Ukraine stonk, we will fight Russia in Donbass and we will win. But also you guys need to step up sanctions, and send more weapons, and Russia’s military is so strong it’s an existential threat to Europe, and we’re still totes willing to solve this diplomatically.

Unless the AFU army in the east is sitting on 1000 pieces of armor and 200 planes that the Russians don’t know about they’ve gotta be so horrendously hosed. After 8 weeks of fighting and being increasingly cut off from the rest of Ukraine Lord knows what their food and ammo supply looks like,
This fucking guy. He is really willing to let every last Ukrainian man, woman, babushka, child, and pig die for the highly optimistic idea of defeating Ivan in the field.

The US does not want peace. If we did, we’d be pressuring Zelensky to agree to meet with Putin and agree on a compromise in exchange for peace
No, the US wants peace. They just don't think things are bad enough to pressure Zelensky to agree to a peace deal with terms that'd heavily favor Russia. If Putin agreed to withdraw from Ukraine except for Crimea and the areas held by the separatists prior to Russia's invasion and to pay reparations, sure the US would tell Zelensky to go for it. Obviously Putin's never going to offer that. At best he'd offer to simply end the war with new borders drawn where his forces currently hold. Zelensky and his government are never going to agree to that when they have a realistic chance of pushing his forces out of some of those areas. And since there's still a realistic chance for Ukraine to push Russia out of some of those areas, the US isn't going to pressure them to give up on them.

Compromise means both sides lose something, and gain a little in return. Russia is not going to give up Crimea. The best bet at this point would be an east/west split between Russia and Ukraine, with Ukraine retaining the same government they have now in the western part.
And east/west split? Have you looked at a map of the situation lately?
DraftUkraineCoTApril9,2022.png
There can hardly be said to be an east/west split with what Russia currently "holds". Giving up the amount of "east" that would satisfy Putin would mean giving up territories not actually held by Russia at this time.
To sweeten the deal and protect the rest of Ukraine, the US should allow Ukraine to have nukes again, seeing as the US is all for prolonging wars, but not getting directly involved.
Russia will never agree to peace that involves giving Ukraine nukes, and the US will never offer to give Ukraine nukes. That's just an open invitation for both sides to start nuclear proliferation to their non-nuclear weapon allies.
Then, Putin has to agree to not invade the rest of Ukraine ever again, otherwise the peace treaty is nullified. Seems more than fair, if you ask me.
Ah yes, Putin should pinky swear not to invade Ukraine a third time. Otherwise when he breaks the peace treaty, the treaty will be void as usually happens when someone deliberately breaks the peace treaty and invades. Great deterrent there.

When the US says that could lift sanctions, it means that they actually dont want to lift the sanctions. Because they want to earn less money.

Ask Libya how giving the US everything is asked for turned out. The goal is to remove Putin from power, Biden said as such multiple times. Sanctions will only come down when a puppet state exists in Russia.

Putin and his russian cronies are not that retarded that they'd actually risk a bigger war, but only if their enemy is ferocious enough to fight back and shows its teeth.
They will if they feel like the existence of Russia is at stake. What actually would be tough on Russia would be Germany cutting off all oil from Russia entirely, but that would be at the expense of their own citizens and lead to more inflation. Euros can bark all they want, but they cucked themselves.

Great. Maybe you can answer this question. Why would the west hold sanctions after Russian troops leave Ukraine?

My best bet right now is that you are thinking west hates russia as much as you hate the west.
They have been under sanctions for years before this episode.

The new sanctions amount to the “double secret probation” that Dean Wormer placed onto the Delta House.

It seems the Animal House decided to fuck up the democracy parade when these sanctions were triggered and, judging from the performance of the ruble, had planned for it.

When the US says that could lift sanctions, it means that they actually dont want to lift the sanctions. Because they want to earn less money.

The US is not harmed in the slightest by sanctioning Russia. Look at our trade balance, we exported a whopping $6bn to them in 2021, our imports are relatively high at $30bn, but that's due to energy imports. The only reason we import energy from them is because it's cheap, and our domestic energy production has political limitations rather than capacity limitations. If Russia must be cut off tptb will find a way to increase domestic production, or start playing nice with countries like Venezuela to find a new cheap importer.

It seems that underneath a lot of cities there are catacombs and old bunkers; sometimes even referred as a city underneath a city.
Kiev is littered with it, so is Odessa and Mariupol and probably a shitload of other cities and places.
Rumor about Mariupol is that it has an underground bunker complex of 8 floors deep but I couldn't find any info about it.

Here's a vid of the Odessa catacombs. At the end of the vid the dude who maps them estimates that 60% of it is still unknown.
