Maybe becuase US is not an official side of conflict, and their aim is to ensure that Ukraine won't get screw over in peace negotiation.

They cannot state for sure what the condition for lifting sanctions would be, because if they say so it would mean that they are officially and publicly speaking for Ukrainian government.

No, the US wants peace. They just don't think things are bad enough to pressure Zelensky to agree to a peace deal with terms that'd heavily favor Russia. If Putin agreed to withdraw from Ukraine except for Crimea and the areas held by the separatists prior to Russia's invasion and to pay reparations, sure the US would tell Zelensky to go for it. Obviously Putin's never going to offer that. At best he'd offer to simply end the war with new borders drawn where his forces currently hold. Zelensky and his government are never going to agree to that when they have a realistic chance of pushing his forces out of some of those areas. And since there's still a realistic chance for Ukraine to push Russia out of some of those areas, the US isn't going to pressure them to give up on them.


And east/west split? Have you looked at a map of the situation lately?

There can hardly be said to be an east/west split with what Russia currently "holds". Giving up the amount of "east" that would satisfy Putin would mean giving up territories not actually held by Russia at this time.

Russia will never agree to peace that involves giving Ukraine nukes, and the US will never offer to give Ukraine nukes. That's just an open invitation for both sides to start nuclear proliferation to their non-nuclear weapon allies.

Ah yes, Putin should pinky swear not to invade Ukraine a third time. Otherwise when he breaks the peace treaty, the treaty will be void as usually happens when someone deliberately breaks the peace treaty and invades. Great deterrent there.

The problem with any sort of Compromise is it just guarantees a redo of this in a few years. Russia feels it needs Ukraine in its entirety, in order to shorten its border with NATO and isolate the Baltics. Ukraine is aware of this too, which is why they want to make the Russians hurt now. At this stage, Ukraine is not in the mood for half measures. Russia is going to have to really turn this around and start winning some engagements decisively if they are going to get Zelensky to agree to anything. Right now I bet there are quite a few people in Kiev who think there is a chance they recapture Crimea right now. At the very least they won't agree to a peace deal until the attempt is made.

They've outright stated they've given up hope of taking it back by force. Crimea right now is the thing you act like you want back, but in reality are willing to give up in negotiations. It would be a shitshow to get it back now, I doubt there's many pro Ukrainian people left there.
