In the UK it's a legitimate nursing profession yes, totally different from most US Midwives. I knew someone who one day decided to become a Midwife, signed up for an online course, passed it and started their apprenticeship, within a year they were out practicing on their own. My state just took a step back, previously Midwives had to be licensed nurses who were also certified midwives. Now they can just be certified Midwives with no nursing degree. The reasoning was that the nurse midwives (similar to the ones in the UK) wouldn't do homebirths for safety reasons of course.
Aren't there also more homebirths in the UK because the midwives have actual nursing training? I recall someone from bongland early ITT talking about how in the UK you can opt for a homebirth with a midwife as long as the baby isn't in the wrong position/etc.

I'm not a huge fan of the government regulating things, but the lack of regulation with who can call themselves a midwife in the US is a disaster.

Yeah in the UK if would have a midwife-led pregnancy and birth, unless any contraindications, in which case a consultant would oversee the care with midwife involvement. If everything is looking healthy, you can request a home birth and as long as there's enough staff available, they'll come out to you when in labour. They are fairly sensible in terms of only allowing certain stages of pregnancy (between 38 and 40 weeks only is generally the way iirc), BP and urine test results must be perfect etc. If labour and birth wards and centres are busy that day/night though, you get told they can't come out for your home birth, and the back up plan kicks in - would typically move to a birthing centre if everything is still looking healthy.

When the filter cuts out ….. eeek

It does baffle me, what passes for a midwife in the US. In the UK they train for three years, just like nurses. They handle the majority of hospital deliveries (doctors only get involved when things are complicated). The midwives Robyn went for seem no different to a third world traditional birth attendants.
We have midwives like that in the US as well, they work in regular OB GYN facilities and really aren’t much different than an actual doctor. (PL)I saw one with 1 1/2 of my pregnancies, ended up being transferred to a doctor just because I had complications and my office won’t let you see a midwife at that point.

I agree with you that the women Robyn went to aren’t much different than what you’d get in a third world and they really give true midwives a bad rap.

Meanwhile Atlas is over there playing with the damn oven. Wtf Robyn.

Sorry I’m for being a double posting fag.

I don't know why we're all sperging about midwives here. Interesting topic though it may be.

BUT! Robyn NEVER wanted any midwife or attendant. She wanted needed NO assistance.

Doulas were supposed to be a complement, mothering the mother, as opposed to the doctor being concerned about the baby. Doulas are a real status symbol now in some circles.

The numbskulls who were with her at Luna's birth were, I believe, intended as doulas. So from the beginning, we saw where Robyn's priorities were:

"A lovely and empowering experience"- No mention of the baby.

Well getting her hair and nails done for L&D was also a clue about her priorities.

Back in the mid 00s, the Mothering forums were absolutely full of batshit chicks that swore that their diploma mill midwife was so much safer than the hospital. They had whole subforums for the concept of unassisted birth and frequently touted orgasmic birth. Makes sense when you know the founder was an HIV denialist that killed her own child of HIV through her breastmilk. I don't know where they all went, but I am sure they are out there.

My fav Mothering cow was Kathryn Mathis. She had a brain damaged baby, I think from delayed medical care when sick. It was one of a set of triplets. She filmed and posted their extremely risky home birth, if I recall correctly.

When the shine wore off of her special needs mama status (I think one or two also had the 'tism?), she moved on to trooning out another kid. Remember Coy Mathis, the little boy suing his school to use the girls' bathroom?
There's a documentary Growing Up Coy. It shows how disinterested Coy is in the gender activism. It's supposed to be pro-troon, but it leaks its crazy all over the place. After years of oversharing everything on internet forums, and making a film about her kid, she suddenly locked up and went quiet.

Pretty sure she's got a post or two in either the Trans Kids or Brain Dead Kids threads. But she brain-deaded her kid because of woo, so she deserves a mention alongside Robyn. Here's a backgrounder:

Well getting her hair and nails done for L&D was also a clue about her priorities.
And got her cursed snatch waxed! Got to be photo ready for childbirth.
She couldn't get into her magic birth mindset without looking and feeling pretty. Her words paraphrased. But yeah, everything is always about the narc, especially the posts about her kids. Even when her dog died it was all about her.

It's bc the US has a two tiered system on midwives. They have nurse midwives like in Europe that are a specially trained nurse. But "certified nurse midwives" are also legal and they only have like a yr of internet training. I think they should stop recognizing these lay midwife certifications entirely. Even a home birth with a nurse midwife would be better, as bad as home births are. A real nurse wouldn't just bullshit for three days when she's out of her depth. US lay midwives don't seem comptent to admit when the mom and baby need to go to the hospital (bc they're crunchy AF and biased against hospitals).

We have a thread for birthing practices, and one for tard babies. Can we please just focus this one on Luna and her family now, and move the other discussions where they belong?

Is the reason Robyn dropped her posting is because Glenn isn’t posting? Is he just taking a break or is he in jail? Weed is still not legal in Nevada, is it? Curious…
