To me, I think it's just projection, I feel like many of these people scream about this shit because they're actually pedos in denial trying to something similar to what we call troll shielding, or just shielding. Trying to deflect on other people in some weird attempt at alleviating their insecurities. It's social conditioning. Most people are reactionaries who blindly defend the status quo. So these people grew up hearing that 18 was AOC so they defend that norm without thinking and that's reinforced by fear of being called a pedo by their peer group. I would argue that culture might be playing a role since people are infantilized by k-12+uni and it takes 2-3 irl for most people to "find themselves" but even then maturity keeps going up if people get sufficient life experiences.
