It is not at all Downton Abbey lol. The “period costumes” are made of polyester and floral appliqués. The women wear no bonnets, modern hair, and obvious makeup. The men behave like rakes until they see The One and are enthralled by her forever. Those who say it’s not meant to be historically accurate are right — it’s a fantasy in every sense, across the board, changing any aspect of Regency aesthetic, culture, or behavior that might not indulge the desires of a 95% female modern audience. What do you expect from an adaptation of a romance novel? It’s as dedicated to realism as a superhero movie.

You can be mad about the race stuff if you wish, but there’s no need to dress it up as concern for historical accuracy in a show that has never given a fuck. They gambled on Netflix subscribers also not giving a fuck and won huge. Bridgerton S1 wouldn’t have broken viewership records without the eye candy of the biracial/black male lead.
