President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

You're almost there! Weak... until joining NATO as they were headed to, of course.
"Better bully them while we still can"
Epic logic.

You SAYING the USA wouldn't stick nukes into Ukraine doesn't matter. They would, and they will.
You saying they wouldn't doesn't matter.

In fact, it matters less, because you need to prove the statement, not the null.

You really must be seething hard if you can't answer a simple question. Is ukraine nazi government or western puppet, because they're two very different worlds that are counter intuitive to one another.

Where do you get this idea? Western governments (USA) will prop up ANYONE, you don't have to promote or be respectful of "Western Values", you can be the most vile dirt bags alive and you'll still receive billions in US support and arms.

Examples: Saudi Arabia, Iraq under Saddam Hussein, Philippines, Afghanistan, various South American and African shitholes run by brutal dictators.

Not that I think Ukraine has a "Nazi government." They just have a lot of Nazis IN government, and, unlike USA or USSR, actual military units (not mercenaries) using Nazi insignia, a Nazi party, etc.

A couple of years ago, the line was "if you sit at a table with Nazis, and you don't kick the Nazis out, you're a Nazi". Times have changed since Trump left office, I guess.

Oh, whoops... Looks like Ukraine only went pro-NATO in response to Russia directly fucking around with them. You know, kind of like how Finland is looking real interested in NATO membership thanks to Putin's direct threats when before they were lukewarm on the whole concept.

That's wrong. Ukraine has wanted to be a part of NATO since at least 2000s. Whoopsie Doodles!

Did you ever bother to read your sources? Yeah, hmm... can't really blame the guy for being skeptical of disarmament when nobody is willing to hold up their side of the bargain. You know, like Russia, the nation they handed their nukes to, and are now currently being invaded by. And more to the point, had been invaded by in 2014.

Yes, I did! I wish you did, too. Oh well.

So, in closing, Ukraine has said they wanted to join NATO for DECADES, which you can quickly find in about 10 seconds, and Ukraine said the nuclear agreement was shit and they want out (per the Zelensky speech you think I didn't read), and Russia invaded like they said they would. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

If they were actual Nazis, instead of just militia larping with Nazi symbols, they'd gas every Jew they can find. Instead, they take orders from one, and welcome Jews into their ranks.

If this is your definition of what a Nazi is, then congrats, you're going with the SJW definition of Nazism, ie. "the people whom I hate". One of Nazism's key components is its utter hatred of all things Jewish. And yet they're friends with Jews and Poles, two groups the actual Nazis despised and slaughtered.

Next time, read real history instead of the slop that your local crackpot theorists come up with.

You realized they accused Trump of being a nazi, right?
You realize they accused like 90% of the American right of being nazis because a double-digit number of wignat tards (and probably a few fed plants) showed up to a rally of over >2000 people with swastikas, right?

So forgive me if "lol they r nazis" doesn't hit home as an excuse when your KGB boy Putin is invading his neighbor.

Epic logic.

I don't think they're trying to bully anyone. I think they're trying to crush them.

With that in mind, it is pretty good logic.

In fact, it matters less, because you need to prove the statement, not the null.

Okay, I'll prove the statement. USA has nukes in fucking Turkey.

"Good" in that it practically gave the Americans all they wanted.

More NATO support from Europe

More nations joining NATO

Military-industrial complex making a fortune selling guns to Ukraine

Russia losing manpower, money, and prestige in a matter of months

So yes, it seems to be "good". Good for NATO.

Okay, I'll prove the statement. USA has nukes in fucking Turkey.
And that's because Soviet Russia, which modern Russia seeks to emulate, was historically untrustworthy. Joining forces with the Nazis in 1939, betraying the Allies in 1945, there's a reason why Warsaw Pact nations still fucking hate Russia the same way Jews hate Hitler. So no wonder the Turks want American nuclear bases.

For real? How could you not know this?

Zelensky said he wanted nukes the WEEK before Russia invaded. My response was "Oh shit, here we go".

I read the whole thing. He doesn't 'ask for nukes'. He says the West has failed to uphold assurances from the Budapest Memorandum and wants new security guarantees. Good speech overall. I like this part a lot:

We will defend our land with or without the support of partners. Whether they give us hundreds of modern weapons or five thousand helmets. We appreciate any help, but everyone should understand that these are not charitable contributions that Ukraine should ask for or remind of.

These are not noble gestures for which Ukraine should bow low. This is your contribution to the security of Europe and the world. Where Ukraine has been a reliable shield for eight years. And for eight years it has been rebuffing one of the world's biggest armies. Which stands along our borders, not the borders of the EU.

And Grad rockets hit Mariupol, not European cities. And after almost six months of fighting, the airport in Donetsk was destroyed, not in Frankfurt. And it's always hot in the Avdiivka industrial zone - it was hot there in the last days, not in Montmartre. And no European country knows what military burials every day in all regions are. And no European leader knows what regular meetings with the families of the deceased are.

This is the most 'aggressive' thing he says:

Support the transformation in our country. Establish a Stability and Reconstruction Fund for Ukraine, a land-lease program, the supply of the latest weapons, machinery and equipment for our army - an army that protects the whole of Europe.

But it's not a false equivalence. Are the exact same situation? No. Are they similar? Equivalent? Yes!

Ukraine said they wanted nukes and NATO status, repeatedly. This would lead to war per Russia, as they also stated repeatedly over the last 20 years.

Re Bay of Pigs, thank you for the correction, my memory failed me. However, we WERE gearing for invasion in response to the missiles. Because it was unacceptable to us.

Ukraine joining NATO is unacceptable to Russia (Putin).
Ukraine did not seek nukes even after Russia invaded in 2014. They wanted guarantees that nuclear powers would protect them from other nuclear powers as promised. They also contemplated NATO status after the 2008 Russo-Georgian war but did not fully express a wish to join until AFTER Russia invaded them in 2014 (and mind you, Russia didn't even invade them because of NATO but because Ukraine wanted to join the EU).

Notice a pattern? Russia starts behaving like a rabid monkey and Ukraine starts trying to seek protection.

I know it's not the worst RF soldiers did, but still, what a fucking shame that nothing will ever wash away. "soldiers" ...

Hopefully he is not going to be on any P.O.W. exchange and will instead rot in some prison hole.

Heroic anti-fascist ruskie soldat steals shit at gunpoint from 10yo girls but gets his heroic ass handed to him the moment real combat begins and "I didn't know we're at war, I'm a good boy"

I have some sympathy for russian civilians, I have nothing but contempt for every single retarded russian jackass that serves in their armed forces, bunch of vodka fueled apes.

You know, I've been thinking that the Russian propaganda is quite reactive in this war, evident from how the shills, the Vatnikniggers, and Putinbros act. Their talking points would follow something bad happening to their invasion

Examples would be:
-When Russia failed in their "blitzkrieg", they're saying "they're not sending their best"
-When the MANPADS and ATGMs are proven to be exceptionally effective, they're raising "blowback effect" of what would happen to those gifted weapons once the war is over
-When there's no military operations that changed the stalemate, especially from the Russian side, they went all out in attacking Ukrainian politicians' character like Zelenskiy
-When the western supplies of weapons continues to steadily strengthen the Ukrainian, they went "but the Globohomo", like the Hunter's laptop thing
-When people are raising the question about the sanctions, they goes "lol, everything is fine, it's actually even better"
-When people begun to discover the atrocities like im Bucha, they either went silent or are saying it's all "false flag".

Now one is asking about nukes and such, I wonder what's the impetus for this talking point. The fact that the new Russian offensive seemed to be slowing down? They're unable to fully control Mariupol even after two months? The Russian might no longer continue this war for long?

But... but... but I was told Russia hasn't sent in its elites and is letting the weaker units wear down the enemy before swarming them with the REAL might of the Russian military!
That's half true. The Russians have thrown away who knows how many thousands of Donbabwean conscripts barely a few steps away from being ANA-tier to try and take Mairupol and now they're going to be reinforced by the mauled remnants of elite units like the 4th Guards Tank Division that our brave phone liberator was captured from.

It'll take some time though, they'll need to allow those troops to go to Crimea or Belarus to send loot boxes back home to Tanya, she needs that fancy western toilet seat to lessen the chance of getting ass frostbite in the outhouse next winter.

Neo-Nazis fail to live up to their predecessors' standards, how unsurprising.

It's double retarded, when you remember that the Russian Space Agency chief used to be an actual Nazi.
