I have sperged about this weaselly little "we are not going after gender-nonconforming kids" dodge before, and now I am going to put it into terms even a good liberal TRA might understand.
Let's suppose that a country's government invests heavily in educating people about finding Muslim terrorists before they can commit terrorist attacks. The government pours funding into TV advertising, puts flyers in public places, brings educators into workplaces to give talks about it, and so forth. Every month or so there is a holiday devoted to Making Sure We Catch All The Muslim Terrorists, and all the government officials participate. The government even offers, and provides, a large cash reward just for providing a tip about any suspicious Muslim that results in an arrest.
But let's just say there are no actual terrorists in the country. No one is radicalized, and the Muslims who live there are all just vibing, although some are very devoted to their religion.
And yet people are being told there are terrorists around every corner, and being rewarded for finding them, and so it is almost inevitable that sooner or later, Ibrahim the kebab shop owner and Ahmed the guy who works at the post office will get denounced by a neighbor, and dragged off to a holding cell.
At this point the government can step back and say “Well, don't look at us. We only asked people to report actual terrorists, not innocent Muslims living their lives!”
Doesn’t matter. They implied that terrorists were everywhere, and rewarded people for "finding" those terrorists. They are partially (arguably mostly) at fault for whatever happens to Ibrahim and Ahmed.
Now, replace "fear of terrorism" with "fear of kids committing suicide en masse," and replace the cash reward with societal accolades, and you’ve got the same situation.
If you send every liberal parent in America out looking for something, and reward them greatly for finding it, they are going to find it. If TRAs send parents out looking for real "trans kids," parents are going to "find" transness in their gender-nonconforming children, even if that is not what the TRAs meant for them to do. And once that happens, the great gender-medicine conveyor belt is going to mobilize, and chances are the kid will never get off it, because that is also part of the system these same TRAs have set up.
And then when someone points this out, the TRAs step back and say “oh no, we only mean kids with actual gender dysphoria!” as if they did not create a whole system based on seeking out magic incongruous gender-identity souls that do not exist, and then foist it on a public that doesn't know any better.
NOBODY saw this coming!
