Not to mention solar panels have a metric fuckton of “nOn BIoDeGraDAbLe wAstE” involved. They’re packaged in cardboard (even if you recycle it, the recycling centers don’t always take it to be further recycled) and that thin styrofoam sheet wrapping (same deal), you usually get them transported on “filthy” diesel trucks, and the best way to hoist them on a roof is with a boom crane or a telelect (both also “filthy” diesel trucks”). The copper wire required to series each panel together and homerun them to the solar controller is usually mined in an open pit mine that utilizes trucks that have tires about the size of a one story house (look it up)…those trucks also run on diesel. I’m not familiar with the specifics on mining the minerals required to make the photovoltaic substrate on the panels themselves but there’s not really such thing as “eco friendly sustainable mining”.

Also if you don’t want those panels to be hooked up to the grid, then you’re going to want lithium or lead-acid batteries. Those aren’t great for the environment either.

I genuinely have more in common with my 63 year old coworker who looks like Larry The Cable Guy who only talks about fishing, hunting, and woodworking…than I do with the amorphous mass of 30-something nonwhite college educated “activists”. Why? Because I’m a card carrying member of “the working class”.

I don’t have anything in common with someone who gets $60k/yr to work for a “non profit” answering emails in an office. Regardless if we share a similar demographic or two. Culturally, they’re completely and entirely alien to me.
