The saddest thing about the current state of modern culture and society is that most people aren't intellectually and emotionally mature enough to handle not just free speech, but a world that is full of moral complexity and ideas alien to their own, so they retreat into a social bubble of like-minded people to seal themselves off from difficult thoughts and discussion.

One of the ResetEra reaction posts made me wonder just how bizarre the world some of the far left live in is at this point. They read this quote from Musk that sounds totally boilerplate normie shit about free speech being good and their reactions are 'wow that sounds EVIL' and 'this is supervillain stuff!'. Makes me wonder just how poisonous the words 'debate' and 'free speech' are in their world. It's like they have a totally different language.

The only thing I can think of - beyond blatant misrepresentation or outright stupidity - is the particular hang-up with "authenticating humans". They could be interpreting it as some extreme dehumanization of people (as in "only humans will be allowed to post, not you filthy left-leaning animals"), or as the last post mentions it could be something fucking stupid like real name verification. And to be perfectly fair, I'm a bit concerned myself because getting rid of spambots is all fine and good but Elon hasn't elaborated on how he plans on accomplishing this. If it's just some sorta glorified captcha then I'm not worried but if he tries to pull some realID shit it's gonna go really poorly for a lot of people who use the platform.

That being said I think this purchase is worth celebrating - either Twitter improves or it dies, and either one is a positive result.
