In a nutshell strat tone is kind of quacky and bright. But the sound can be hit or miss, depends on what sound you're going for I get an enjoyable and very playable tones out of an squire I picked up for like $80

For SSS guitars I personally like the overwound burns pups, they are still bright and twangy but doesnt't have that harsh quackiness, a tad warmer and grittier when given some juice.

What kind of sound or feel are you going for?

Vintage accurate to start, just to get a feel for what the vibe is 'supposed' to be, then branch out from there if I'm unhappy.
This approach worked insanely well on my les paul since starting with fairly accurate paf clones and being blown away from go after years and years of struggling using my own ears trying different buckers. So if I could just skip all that and hope they got it right back in the 50s like pafs I'd be stoked.

If you're going for a Clapton, Hendrix of Knopler, SRV blues kind of feel and want that kind of vintage slapback sound then yes a strat is perfect and a strat and can do most things near on.

As you know for booming rock the LP and PAF's are the shit, if your LP is setup to split the buckers you might think twice about getting a strat.

Vintage accurate sounds a bit vague, strats SSS has a unique tone, althought I'm not the biggest gear head and dont follow each year/model religiously, to me a strat sounds like a strat, some are better/purer in tone and built better but you kinda know what you're getting with a SSS strat, like a hot chick who is adamant about no anal, fun to mess around with but not fulfilling in the long term.

You are going to get a more noticeable sound diff from your output setup than the pickups imo.

Yeah, speakers>amp>pickups>guitar is the general order of most impact tone wise, which is funny since it's pretty much a reverse signal path. (some would argue reversing speakers/amp, but I say that speakers are like a final master eq and an ugly set will make the best amp reek, while a good cab can spit shine even a solid state practice amp)

But I am in the game solely to cork sniff since everything else is dialed in.

1990's Tokai Breezysound Telecaster Thinline Factory Prototype - Aluminium Body - 4k Aud

Sent to us directly from the factory in Hamamatsu during their old stock clear out (as we're the new Australian distributor of Tokai), this is one of the most incredible guitars i've ever had the pleasure of owning. One of two prototype models made in the 90's that lived in the factory for over 20 years, it's a Talbo style construction utilizing a hollow brushed aluminium body in a custom made Telecaster thinline shape with a grill-covered F hole. There's a wood block under the bridge for some extra stability, otherwise it's a completely hollow design that resonates beautifully both acoustically and through an amp. 22 frets on a rosewood fretboard and a maple Breezysound neck with a nicely rounded medium profile. Weighing just over 4kg's, it's loaded with a pair of Filtertron style humbuckers along with a three way pickup toggle and master volume/tone knobs. Seems to have been unused during it's years stored away in the factory, frets are almost perfect and there's no real signs of wear and tear. Given a basic setup and restring prior to listing.
Oh fuck you, man... (😉♥️) Why you gotta show me this shit? I didn't even know this existed, and now I'm wondering how many of my organs are totally necessary. (:_(

On the strat topic, I've always really fancied one of the Jerry Donahue Strats; weird wiring, but (fairly) stock looking;

Have been gone for a bit, but figured I post some gear i've been drooling over. Haven't bought anything for guitar in like a year now, but will probably picking some shit up soon-ish.

This is a Mexican Fender Priced Yahama, with 2 really good sounding alnico 5 humbuckers. (also come with good sounding p90s). For the ~$800 price tag, you get a chambered mahogany body, a rosewood fretboard with cool fret markers, a 5-way switch (2 and 4 positions mimic 2 and 4 on a strat interestingly) and a push pull pot which gives a treble cut kind of thing, giving a jazz tone. Oh, did i mention it has Stainless steel frets at a $800 price tag? Also note the 2 racing stripes down the center. This thing seems like a great performing guitar. humbuckers to cut noise in a live setting, lot of settings to minimize need to change guitars, and a unique look that will stand out.

#2) Supro Delta King 12:

Have been considering a small 15-watt tube amp for awhile. I have a really good solid state that is very large and is very predictable, but i wanted tubes. Did a lot of listening to Fender Blues Junior IVs, Marshall DSL20, and even some vox AC15s, but none really grabbed me. Then i got pointed to the Supro. This amp sounds great all around. It's made for edge of break-up and kills in this section, but it really does it all. The cleans honestly sound great to me, not as "pristine" as the fender, but the cleans on this are more my style anyway. The amp has only 1 channel, but has 2 throws: boost and drive. The boost is what it sounds like, uses a FET to boost the signal and gives a great lead tone. Then comes the drive: it has essientially a Overdrive pedal shoved in there that rips the amp into a AC/DC level of dirt. The amp also features a real spring reverb and a channel out that allows you to run the amp into the front of another AMP (not a cab), where you can run them both or turn the master down and run only the second amp's speaker. This amp is going to be in my possession by the end of the year, especially with the new sweetwater exclusive color:

For the price the Revs are really great. They are what they look like they are: early '80s double-cutaway Gibson (or Washburn/Tokai/Eastman copy), solid-body Ibanez Artist (with simplified wiring), etc., minus the premium us oldfags pay for old shit.

I knew that Tokai would simultaneously tickle and rustle your jimmies. As I said above I don't have encyclopedic knowledge on models of guitars, I know my weaboo guitars but had no idea that even existed either. I reckon that poor, soon to be rich bloke selling is gonna get inundated with a bidding war, all the Aus Jap guitar spergies are shitting their pants over it have never seen so many wow reacts to an ad in this group.

I've seen and tinkered with some of those oddly wired Strats in stores and I think I mentioned in our lovely tea party chats I had an autty electrician engineer mate who used to build frankenstein guitars.

If it quacks like a duck, it's a SSS strat. One really good blues player I knew hated them with a passion cause of the tone but he had a firebird, so with that most other guitars are "lol" I guess.

Spot on.

Don't get me wrong.
Do what floats you boat, spend your money how ever your autistic pleasures see fit, if thats fucking with different pickup setups I get it. Chasing tone and wanting to experience classic sounds and all that.

As you've probs noticed from my advice it's generally more practical, pragmatic, utilitarian or whatever. As in spend the money for when you need it for a band or a professional gig etc, otherwise it can be one of those money pit ventures.

Past few days I created/ been tweaking a new VST chain in GR5 with a ibanez tube screamer -> fuzz into an orange amp clone -> a virtual UK green 4x12 with the mic offset on the cone, spring reverb and tape echo. One of the best 60's/70's tones I have come up with and I did it free on the pc. Sounds amazing through my reference headphones. Now if I write enough material to utilize the tone I have a basic idea of what hardware chain and the settings will roughly get me there.

Buys an amp because it comes in a nice colour, female consoomer mentality.

I can't talk I was going to buy one of those marshall amps that was in a snakeskin finish.

Spend the money on a good interface and a set of reference headphones. The Steinberg UR22C and AKG K701's I got recently can be had less than a small valve combo or head.
If you have the money to spare there is a device - attenuator you can run a valve amp into an interface and use the top with virtual IR's, name of the device escapes me atm, it's not cheap.

I live in a set of townhouses. I can't even fire up the 2.1 desktop speakers without feeling like a douche when it's over 50%. All my home playing is headphones, don't need any more reasons for the rozzers to pay me a visit.

Sames, I'm debating reference monitors vs headphones. I'm using consumer grade of both on/off currently, the flattest response I could get for cheap 20 years ago, probibly time to update. Interface is hxstomp's built in one which seemingly has a lower noise floor than my scarlett I had.

After using interface and VSTs for a while for home practicing I decided to put my 1x12 cab under my desk and my tiny little 2W tube amp on it, because sometimes you just gotta have that good feeling of properly wasted energy for those boomer bends.
