Is it just me or does being obsessed with pimple popping seem to be more a female thing?

Agreed, I used to go to a barber shop in the Deep South and the mother and daugher(s) team would go nuts when they had an ingrown hair or pimple. Honestly, I didn't mind when they went to town but looking back I should have been a little more concerned with the sanitary conditions.

I also have friends with teenage daughters and they are obsessed with pimple popping.

i'm not sure about this one honestly, it's definitely "odd" but there are tons of weird ass videos out there. plus, it IS fairly mainstream, as bizarre as it is. i think a lot of people derive satisfaction from popping pimples, even if they don't seek it out online.

i'd more focus on a particular freak/group of freaks in the community, not the community as a whole, since most people in it are just normies who are a little weird. but i think with some digging (heh) there's potential.

i think it might have to do with women being more interested in beauty, skincare, etc in general. it follows that if you're really into making yourself look nice and grooming yourself, you might also be into this weird pimple-popping shit.

As someone who had cystic acne as a kid until my doctor finally found some medicines that worked, I can see why some people might view this as a sort of catharsis for their own skin issues. You guys can't tell me you never had a bitch of a pimple that was under the skin and you couldn't pop it without stabbing it with a needle or knife.

Great write up, OP. May I suggest you add Cattle and Horse Hoof cleaning and shaving to this? Same thing, hoofs are often full of pus/rocks that become ingrown and buried over time, and the videos show the rocks and what not being popped out. There's multiple YouTube channels dedicated to this

That said, I understand the draw to this community. It's seeing satisfaction. When you pop a pimple or something that's irritating you, you feel a sense of relief. No more pressure on the skin, pain when you do X, etc. My guess is that lots of people like to experience this sense of relief secondhand.

It's also a woman thing. My mom did this shit to me back in the day, and both my ex and my current GF would look for pimples on my back on a regular basis. My current GF always has long nails and has cut me good a few times now. I assume it's a motherly thing, wanting to groom

On the topic of Dr. Pimple Popper copycats, we have a prolific TikTok user, Fransesca Hahn-Galioto @https://www.tiktok.com/@rippingstripspoppingzits. She is a licensed skin care professional or esthetician in New Jersey. It should be emphasized that she didn't use the term dermatologist. An esthetician is basically a spa technician. She has a video explaining how you too can have her job and another explaining that she's not legally permitted to go beneath the outer layer of your skin when she sees you.

It appears that she has some kind of vibrating nose tool.

Her website is a special piece of work with a garish web design that greets you with a banner demanding that you be anti-racist the moment you enter the site. Socjus influencer really does appear to be a running theme with this woman. Like all good influencer, she has a bunch of referral links at the bottom of her home page and a donations option. I like the referral for professional liability insurance. It appears that in addition to popping pimples her other main service is waxing, but she'll ask that you wear a tampon or menstrual cup if you're on your period. No, I don't know why that one needed to be spelled out. She's also peddling merchandise and cosmetics. The prices are just as ludicrous as you'd expect. She also appears to be a Christian but very much in the social media influencer way.

It is, on the whole. But I'm not gonna lie, I love this stuff too. There's something very satisfying about watching them pop to me, and a lot of people apparently. I don't get it, nor do I spend a whole lot of time on it. But once in awhile, I do enjoy taking a look at videos like this for a few mins.

When I was a teenager, my girlfriend at the time was. I'd be laying there, or sitting on the couch watching television, and she'd pop every blackhead on my face and keep them on the end of her fingernail and show me all the crap she got out afterwards. It didn't bother me because she had such a gentle touch, she'd never leave a mark. I guess that's part of where I get it from.

I used to watch their videos awhile back, if it's the one with the older white gentleman who is the vet in charge, and his black african assistant. Every dog they bring in off the street in Africa are full of those worm parasites that you see in the video that @DumbDude42 posted, as well as being covered with 100s of ticks. It's fucking gross, but it is satisfying in a way seeing them get all those ticks and worm parasites off of the dogs skin. I remember them injecting dogs with tranquilizers so they could safely remove all the ticks, and since the ticks are attached to the dog, sucking his blood, the ticks would also get anesthetized from the tranquilizer. Very gross, but also interesting in a way.

Certainly, a very well-put-together thread, but I suppose I'm just wondering what the point is exactly. I mean you can gawk at people for liking such absurd content but I don't really see any exceptional behavior from the individuals involved. I don't really see anything particularly funny or crazy about people recording pimped they pop in an attempt to gain a crumb of internet clout, it's just the sort of low IQ content I would expect on the modern Internet. I think there is certainly potential here, I would focus a lot more on the buffoons trying to mimic someone like Doctor Pimple Popper and failing miserably, people trying and failing to perform DIY surgery at home for those sweet sweet views is something I think is a much better topic than just the community overall. So maybe include a bit more about the exceptional individuals trying to do it themselves at home. Otherwise, good thread!

Most of these DIY are basically recorded self mutilation.
