Magic The Gathering

Ehh, only surprised it isn't more gay. That's a nice Raptor holding up those lesbians and Bearscape made me smirk (and also implies that homosexual men are not human).

Is that a jizz ring?

Also, fuck all of the people who complained about titty playmats and sexy anime alters of cards now that they're printing Bearscape, they better allow people to bring shit like this to events as from what I remember it was banned at one point:

Muh sides.

Bearscape did make me giggle, hope there are "bear" tokens to go with it.

What was that game that caused a stink, Dream Daddy? Where it was pretty clearly exploitation of gay stereotypes being levied at and lapped up by straight white fujos and the brave men who wanted to fuck straight white fujos, but any gays who pointed that unfortunate fact out were thrown into the meat grinder? I imagine you'll get the same things with any gays that are miffed at the double-standards for remotely-sexual content. I mean, in the end, this iteration of the card will get forgotten about in like a week anyways. Is it played much of anywhere but a handful of EDH decks?

I think the secret lair perfectly encapsulates what happens when corpos pick up on grassroots movements or social causes and try to co-opt their unique artistic stylings: you get something bland and largely forgettable. The art stands out no more to me than half of the Strixhaven archive cards, really. Bearscape is ironically the most memorable of them all.

the truly amusing thing about bearscape is apparently the design brief says the blond one on the left is a FtM troon

so does this make this the first topless woman magic card?

someone out there a finger curls on the monkeys paw

Magic: The Gathering highlights queer artists in Pride Across the Multiverse collection

The Secret Lair set will raise money for The Trevor Project
It’s not even Pride Month yet, but it’s never too early to get into the spirit. Wizards of the Coast has just announced its upcoming Secret Lair collection of alternate art cards for Magic: The Gathering, each of which has been illustrated by an LGBTQ+ artist. Fittingly, the collection is called Pride Across the Multiverse.

Launched in 2020, Secret Lair is a print-on-demand series that allows Magic fans to purchase customized versions of existing cards. These special sets are only available for a limited time, although in this case, the purchasing window is quite forgiving: Pride of the Multiverse will be available to order from May 4 to June 30. Wizards of the Coast will donate half of the proceeds to The Trevor Project, a nonprofit that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ+ youth.

Stephanie Cheung, the art director for Pride Across the Multiverse, described the process as follows: “I looked for artists across the spectrum of LGBTQIA2S+ and BIPOC identities; having a breadth of artists is an important part of celebrating the diversity of our community and experiences.” Cheung also noted that “there was no way this collection of eight cards would represent every aspect of the community, but we wanted to honor the hope and joy found in our multifaceted identities.”

Cheung concluded by emphasizing the core qualities that unite these cards: “Each card in Pride Across the Multiverse tells its own story of love, struggle, resilience, joy, and community. Stories are how we practice hope, and I think it’s so important to hope, to really be in the practice of holding fast and remaining true. It is our triumph, and we will shape the future with our ferocious resilience.”

The set of eight cards costs $39.99 for regular finish and $49.99 for foil versions; they’ll arrive in a rainbow foil box. The order will also include codes for virtual card sleeves in Magic: The Gathering Arena; the four card designs in the image at the top of this article show off how those will look.
FAGS.

Cascade Glimpse really is just absolutely fucking degenerate. How's that for a turn 3. I am subbing the Behemoths for Omnaths right now since I don't own any. Don't worry I am not a big enough faggot to actually play games of Magic against other human beings with this deck...just saw someone use it on me earlier today and was pretty intrigued. I should never have delved into this butt fuck insanity.

Oh....also, that new enchantment card Fight Rigging? It gets silly in green devotion.

That board state is also one that missed a land drop, by the way.

You run 4 Craterhoof, 4 End-Raze and you are likely to hit one in the Hideaway. Then you run a bunch of 4cmc 6/6's that you can put your +1/+1 counter from Fight Rigging (Incubation Druid gets turned on with it too) on to turn them into 7/7's, triggering the free critter under the Fight Rigging. I have gotten turn 3 free Craterhoof with 3 other creatures on the field for a total of 21 damage. This may turn into a straight up combo deck eventually.

Glimpse of Tomorrow is a red suspend card and gets cast off of a Cascade trigger (in this case, Shardless Agent or Violent Outburst), what it does it takes all your permanents in play and shuffles them into your library and then grabs you an equal amount off the top and puts them all into play. The goal is to use things like Khalni Garden and Seasoned Pyromancer along with Wavesifter evoke clue tokens to put as many small worthless "permanents" onto the board before turn 3 or 4 when you can cascade. Even tho most of them are tokens or Clues or whatever they still count and you get like 7 cards off the top of your library just put directly into play. You are pretty much guaranteed to replace all that worthless shit with the stuff from your deck (Chancellor of the Forge, for one...which is really nasty in this deck and pulls double duty as a beginning-game token generator and win condition)

In the event that you whiff on your Glimpse, stacking a Goblin Dark Dwellers trigger in the right spot can help you reroll the dice. It is a vile, nasty, horrible fucking deck. Degenerate to the core.

Here is my list:

CHCASCADE.png

the tier 1 version runs Omnath instead of Craterhoof but honestly Craterhoof is still fine. It's just unlikely to ever be hard cast by the deck, so Omnath is preferred as a backup if you can't get your Cascade off properly. Also you are likely to get a whole board of fetch lands when you Glimpse, so those Omnath triggers are the real deal with this deck. And fyi you don't need the full 4 playset of Glimpse, the deck is supposed to only run 3 but I needed to fill one slot.

That reminds me of those turn one red counterspell decks I was seeing there for a bit. That's so degenerately dumb I've got to respect it.

Yeah it is bonkers. Then again most of the MH2 modern decks are just ridiculous anymore. And everyone plays the exact same thing...that's why I have been having so much fun brewing with mono G devotion. Fight Rigging is fucking insane and I love it so much, I guarantee you'll see a Fight Rigging deck become popular in modern some time soon because it is just so consistently able to cast a free Craterhoof or boar. I'm sure the deck can even be improved upon quite a bit...it may be my personal best brew but I am far from a master deckbuilder.

rigged.png

One beauty of the list is in its simplicity, you have engineered for yourself such a limited pool of actual cards that your lines always usually end up being the exact same...turn 1 ramp, turn 2 ramp/cast Fight Rigging, turn 3 play a 6-power critter pre-combat, get the +1/+1 counter to make it a 7/7, trigger Fight Rigging, cast your zero mana Craterhoof with 3 other creatures making the Craterhoof trample swing for at least 10 and everyone else trample swing for at least 5 each. Or if you have to wait till 4th turn, you can put the +1/+1 counter on the Incubation Druid so he taps for 3 mana, then cast another big creature (another Crater probably) from the hand, get your free one, and swing for 40+.

Like anything else it is susceptible to removal and enchantment hate etc. but even if you get disrupted, you can just do it again within another turn or so...not to mention the new Titan of Industry that makes shield counters...he probably belongs in here too for his versatility. Some lifegain bigguns like him would fit nicely, maybe that one Wurm that brings your life up to 7 and keeps you there while he stays on the field. Lots of situational monsters in green.

it's kindof similar to dredge, it matches up very well in game 1 and runs into some trouble after boarding. void mirror and lavinia 2 shut it down hard, and I believe grafdigger's cage also prevents the creatures from entering play (as they are revealed from the library, not exiled)

Yeah and especially now that every deck is running Endurance...then again, every deck is running Force of Vigor in the SB too...everyone's got all the answers, all the time! And they all cost zero mana!

The art director for the set is trans (and doesn't bother to pass) and lives in Seattle Washington. I expect nothing less from this set.
