Jesus. I can't like Sakamata of HoloX because I feel like she baits coomers who think gross girls smell good(they don't) and Gura says some shit that makes me raise an eyebrow, but at least it's not in a way that feels like it's playing to an audience. I haven't watched more than a few seconds of Pippa but she seems alright enough, but jesus, how do people get like this? I can be a gross fatty on particularly tiring days of work, but I dunno man. Women are wild.
In my own expert and very genius opinion, I think there just wasn't any stability in their childhood. The others I can't speak on as I've never watched most of their stuff but I can flesh out my argument with what I know about the Yabbit.
Pippa moved around a whole bunch and she's still moving around. I get the feeling that her parents separated at one point, if not all together, by the wording of some of her stories though to be fair I'm not aware of her ever saying anything about it. Then there's the issue of schooling. She's never said how many she was in and out of but the number is more than one which typically is not good. Just this week she, again, talked about how she hated school and she was bullied, She even dropped out of high school at one point iirc to make it big on the youtubes. If you go back and listen to the one block challenge stream you can hear her crying at one point about how embarrassed and ashamed she was at that. She got her GED through ECOT I believe it was and then kinda just shut herself up in her room since. It wasn't till she was able to gain some ground as a moth and because of that she got hired on at Phase Connect. Now she has stability and place where she belongs. I have to imagine that you'll find a lot of similar stories from a lot of different chubbas.
The other possibility, and I wanna super stress that I have no direct evidence and don't like insinuating this, is that these women were diddled as children. One defense mechanism of women who were molested is to stop taking care of themselves, make themselves as repulsive as possible to deter anyone from attacking them again or use it as an outward display of how they see themselves. Is that what happened to them? If we're being honest, given what we know about abuse there is a non zero percentage that the answer is yes. I honestly don't ever want to know for two reasons:
1. I believe their it would change their identity from silly Internet girl who entertains me to abuse survivor. I don't think that'd be fair for their work and achievements as entertainers to be overshadowed by something they may still be in the process of recovering from.
2. I will be completely honest about my selfishness in that I would feel incredibly guilty about being entertained by an abuse victim still dealing with their trauma and I don't want that kind of baggage. It'd be like Alfred's Playhouse on repeat while I throw popcorn at the dancing anime girl. It'd be different from me following my favorite cow because I do not interact with him only document. I do interact with these women and I would have to stop that. If this all sounds weird and incoherent that's because it is as I am a weirdo with hangups.
I really hope it's either an act or exaggerated because I don't take joy in the hardship of others, save for people working for the press.
Indie I like talking about attending Offkai:
Some interesting tidbits:
- organisers seemed very inexperienced, not enough panels to avoid dead air, bunch of last minute changes, almost no badge checking etc ...
- very different crowd compared to actual anime conventions, people were way more introverted/nervous
- staff claimed around 700 people total showed, thinks it was more around 200-ish
- apparantly Domo mc'd for almost every fucking panel?? probably could've used some help (sidenote: I like how the earliest pages of this thread were full of Domo the Ratking doomposting and now nobody fucking cares about him)
- retarded lottery system for meet and greet with Mousy and Melody: wait in line, push button, rng tells you if you can get a ticket, if you failed you can just get back in line. literal gacha system, massive waste of time
- great opportunity to advertise yourself as a vtuber ... barring that there were usually on 30 people in the rooms
Overal, sounds like it was enjoyable, next one could be great, assuming they plan it out better.
I like Lua. She's comfy enough. She did the rigging on Sister Abigail Dovely, a personal favorite of mine. I really liked her opinion and views on everything as someone who wasn't personally involved and yet still in the industry. I also really liked how she was mentioning that there was a vtuber on at the watch room who was just talking about the con and it was clearly Pippa she was talking about. There was nothing but rave review of the con from the PC girls so this was a nice balancing of that. Here's to hoping OffKai learns and grows from this.
