Isn't the whole trial based on Amber Herd calling Johnny Depp abusive in a book and him suing her over libel? Depp tried to sue UK newspapers over the libel of calling him abusive only to lose BADLY because there were a few instances of him being abusive which meant the headlines were in fact true enough to hold up.
So this is probably going to end up with Depp losing (unless US libel laws are absolutely retarded) because even if Amber Herd hit him a billion times, if Depp struck back a few times she's got enough ammo to win. These court cases are usually for things like pure lies, yet the whole relationship seems toxic enough to not rule in any conclusive way. It's just a public shitstorm and Depp is going to lose the PR game HARD if after all this the judge rules in Herd's favour.
Depp's defence is seemingly "No, I didn't hit you, you hit me so I hit you back!" which might be one of the most retarded ways to argue your defence.

This braking the camels back and Deep no longer allowing Heard and public opinion to treat him like a cabin boy instead of a pirate king he fought back. Legally.
Because I’m the end it’s not about winning in court. It’s about leveling the playing field.

Because even if I lose this legal case like the UK one (which didn’t allow for much of the evidence Deeps team is using in this case) against the gossip publisher he lost. In the US and even the world as a televised court case he wins.
Public opinion shifts faster then anything. Use liberal thinking against itself to show he is as much if not more the victim as a member of the me too movement and he wins.
He wins film roles. He wins public trust. He demonizes the very woman who defamed him in the eyes of the public. Because he can lose this case and still win. So long as public opinion is on the majority favoring Deep they will see his movies. They will fight his causes to remove Heard as an actress in movies and tv. They will say until the next Holly weird scandal that Deep was the real victim. They will has tag Justin for deep until the day he dies like they still do over Trump losing the election.
