I think the cultural aspect of South Korea is a shithole so massive that even I, from a third world country shithole wouldn't want to live there.
It is almost like a over capitalist results above anything society that even the pop culture there isn't a trace of sincerity, just marketing bullshit.
Maybe it is really a consoomer paradise in the big cities, but for me every single aspect of it looks fake and plastic.

I think that people do not understand that S. Korea does not have indigenous culture beyond their own language.
Local religion and spiritual tradition has been replaced by fanatical protestantism and catholic zealotry.
Local culture has been wiped out by the japanese in the interbellum in an attempt at integrating Korea. And it was an extremely stratified society; with slavery and serfdom quite widespread. Only the highest of the highest classes were free to do things like "culture". There was thus no common man cultural reserve upon which the koreans could fall back.
The most recent military action of the S.K. military was being rented out to the americans for use in the vietnam war in return for tons of development aid.

South Korea is completely americanised. It honestly should become the 51st state.

Yeah, I've heard eating disorders are super common among kpop idols since Korea is all about looks/body image. One infamous example of the diets they get put on is the paper cup diet where you can only eat from a tiny paper cup three times a day for a week, and usually these idols are doing intense dance exercises every day.
It's really no surprise why pro-ana people like this kind of stuff and use idols as "thinspo".
