It's kind of funny. The fact that this type of thing is going on has been public knowledge since the Vault 7 leaks, not to mention older things like Edward Snowden's leaks, or heck even the Patriot Act. However it doesn't get a whole lot of public discussion, so I'd guess that most vtubers wouldn't even be that aware of it. Those that are would probably avoid it just out of a general aversion to talking about anything remotely political.

Amelia's an exception since she's apparently a very techie-minded person compared to most vtubers and probably more aware of the issue. And of course Pippa is Pippa.

nah i think idol culture in Japan already big on itself around 60 while korea just start in 1996. + they still have a heat relationship between each other, there is no way japan try copy that from their enemy. also Japan focus on tits, while korea seems focus on thigh or ass shot

When talking about Kpop I wasn't saying it wasn't as bad as the idol industry, I meant that the idol industry is viewed as predatory while kpop expolded in popularity and has legions of western fans. Personally I think it's due to male kpop groups and double standards. Obviously we view women being exploited as bad, but men are generally viewed as lesser. Just look at cases of domestic abuse, women abusing men is taken far less seriously. I;m not saying kpop is any less brutal, just that it is more popular and accepted.

From watching hers, and Lumi's streams while reading the interactions in chat (from said members and some drop ins from Cyberlive). I kind of believe the story. I think it is really strange that people draw this line between what Idols are in Japan and what we have seen in the West; like the way Idols are commercialized isn't something relatively normal here for many years. If you want to know what an Idol is, they are basically the Japanese equivalent of what Britney Spears and any number of boy-bands were back in the 90s and early 2000s. You might not remember but there was a time where people worshiped Britney (and a major part of her marketing was her virginity, something that Justin Timberlake joked about in an SNL skit). Going further, they are very much akin to how Hannah Montana and any of the Disney star/singers were marketed. We have this this 'pure, sweet, innocent' singer that 'lives for their fans' already in the West. The Japanese just perfected the market.

I don't remember Britney's virginity being a talking point (I was too young) but I assumed it would be due to America still having deep Christian fundamentalist influence at the time. I know we have celebrities in the west, but I just never remember obsessions about how they couldn't date. If anything we love scandals, all media ever talks about is how fucked up peoples lives are.

That video was interesting, especially since she likely had to spend years of her life training to be an idol.

So if a idol is a celebrity + parasocial relationships, doesn't that mean Yagoo pretty much succeeded in creating his vision? God I would love his honest thoughts on people like Rushia, you can't get more parasocial than selling a GFE. I wonder if he regretted the GFE stuff or approved of it until she started leaking shit to 3rd parties. Either way if this is what an idol is, it's nice and wholesome that Suisei and Kiara got to fulfill their dreams.

Probably bots, she's at 1.4k now but the last few times I've watched her solo she's at around 3-500. She mentioned people are messing with streamers currently, which is why she doesn't have chat on the video because people will change their profile pictures to illegal content and the Susan Bots will auto ban people when those images show up in chat.

Maybe she just got pushed by the algorithm or something then, who knows. Just weird that it spiked by 1,000 viewers or 300%+ of her normal audience. Not saying she's botting, just that someone might be doing something shady without her consent.

If it's genuine viewers then grats to her, she deserves the views.
