Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

It had already been a somewhat popular ship in the fandom apparently. It’s not annoying (outside being the token lesbian romance) but it was insufferable hearing everyone screech about that and the bi sticker.
didn't notice the bi sticker.
I personally don't really care since like I said I did find the two characters entertaining. I just didn't relaize that was the direction they were going with them. Of course twitter and tumbler would be screeching about it. But at this point I don't care what those people have to think.

Tumblr drooling over this show aside, it wasn’t a bad finale, at least compared to some of the ones we had over the past years. In a ways, Amphibia, and soon Owl House, ending marks the end of an era of animation. The lore shows that started with AT and GF are all but dead and the way animation is currently shipping up, they don’t seem to have a future.
Out of all the post GF shows, I have a soft spot for Amphibia so this is pretty sombering to think about.

Do you really think those will be the last of the lore shows? I guess I see what you mean Nickledon and Cartoon Network don't seem to have any lore cartoons. So I guess I see your point.

They were ok when they lasted in my opinion. Some of them like Adventure Time. I just relaize that Regular show is one of the few cartoons to kill off a major character in the finale without bring them back at the very end.

I'm fine with Owel House ending that show turn out to be shit. I remmber when both Amphibia and Owl House were announced and I thought the Owl House would be my cup of tea who knew it would be amphibia all along.

I remmber with the lore cartoons they started out intresting. But than everyone started to do them even cartoons that weren't even originally lore base like Gumball and Regular show got into near the end of there run.

I have a soft spot for Ninjago merely because I watch that form a young age and also very amaze how long that's been going.

So what will replace these lore focused cartoons, do you think?

I personally really enjoyed Amphibia, i feel like it's one of the best Cartoons i've seen in a long while, and it certainly beats Owl House out of the park.

It's sad seeing something like this go, but i think it's good that Story-Driven shows are temporarily taking a break for once.

I know Ghost and Molly McGee is one of those replacements, and it's actually a pretty fun and entertaining little show from what i've seen.

I'm fine for a break. But I wouldn't mind them coming back in the future. Those cartoons weren't generally bad. Some just got way out of hand.

For instance Star vs the forces of evil kind of shows what happens when you change a monster of the week show into a story arch episodes. Also they wasted a perfectly good villain and decided to end the series with a joke character as a villain.

Don’t know if any of you saw it but this movie also used to be the shit for me. It’s originally French but was translated to German which I watched. There’s also an English version.

I definitely see this as more of a break than final end for lore shows, at least in the Adventure Time/Steven Universe/Gravity Falls mold. Story driven shows will probably still exist, just take different formats and approaches. Speaking of which…

To follow what @Oats12345 mentioned, I think action and adventure cartoons will finally make a comeback. We’ve seen adult action shows reach a fair amount of success and there’s plans for action shows for younger audiences so there’s an inkling of hope. I’d be happy if we just got more action comedies at the very least.
Imagine being the same company that streamed Cuties and greenlit multiple seasons of Big Mouth and then saying Lupo is “too much”. Danny’s right, fuck Netflix.

One thing I find interesting lately is looking at all the action cartoons from the 80s and 90s. There were alot that only lasted like a season or 2. Granted alot of it had to do with the fact that they were being use to sell toys. so if the toys sales sucked they would cancel the cartoon. But still the amount form those 2 decades are insane to me for some reason.

Would love to see similar cartoons in the future.

Unless the mainstream stops "subverting expectations" and stops greenlighting lazy fantasy co-opted by Gay Alphabet hacks, it'll probably be another wave of japanimation to save them (again).

I wouldn't mind a new western cartoon. But that would mean guns and guns are badass yucky.

Maybe action cartoons that have heroes and villains like Transformers and G.I Joe form the 80s but with out the constant lore maybe?
If it is, it won't be made in america right now. We've exhausted a fuckton of classic action properties with few successes. From what little I've seen of "Miraculous Ladybug" we should welcome more french-made heroes.

"They asked me to tone it down to PG13."
Is this not the same place that prided itself in saying uncensored curse words and having as much nudity and sex as you wanted so long as it wasn't full blown porn? Pussies.

Yeah i have more trust in french animation than anglos these days. At least many of the artstyles are more varied and they can emulate anime artstyles better.

Do any of you have a "pipedream show" you want to see? I've always wanted western novels to be adapted to animation than live action. novels like animorphs and the old kingdom chronicles would be neat to see in 2d but boy it will cost a lot. Heck why don't you animate some classic portal fantasy books while you're at it, those zoomers love them isekai media.

I was bored so I watched A Goofy Movie. It was surprisingly alright. I never thought I'd see Goofy having sentimental moments without it feeling too shoehorned or mawkish. I'd like to know how they went from being stranded in the badlands to backstage in LA, though.

An Extremely Goofy Movie was the same story all over again, except Monsters University flavored and shittier. The animation is noticeably more... prodded along by computers? But it had Brad Garrett and now I know where @Mr. Nobodyguy 202's avatar is from, so there's that.

Ziggy and the Roaches

Oggy and the cockroaches?

we should welcome more french-made heroes.

New Lucky Luke show when?
