Ah, defending your own cat from an attacker is way different than randomly deciding to torture a cat to death, imo. Sounds like he got a little obsessed with going after his cats attacker, but the initial justification seems valid.

According to the About Me section (see the OP of this thread), he was enrolled at SUNY Broome with a major in "Engineering Science". This is just a guess, but would suck if his parents dumped funds into his account thinking that it was going to be used for tuition and course materials, when he might have spent the money on guns and body armor instead. I get that it is impossible for parents to keep tabs on everything their adolescent child is up to and that kids are sneaky, but their son was known to kill animals and deeply disturbed. How could they not pay more attention to what was going on? They have two younger sons and I can only hope that those kids come out of it alright and have support. It's also interesting that he claimed to be of sound mind when he was made to seek counselling and treatment for previously threatening to shoot up his school.

Honestly whenever something like this happens nobody ever brings up the deplorable state of mental health care despite it being the best chance at preventing things like this.
So yes, presumably. It's easier to pretend a problem doesn't exist or to blame it on something else rather than actually deal with it, and some parents have blinders on regarding their children since they are, whether they like it or not, their legacy.

Mental health care is meaningless if they don't follow up on it. They inevitably decide "nah" and we get the free-range kooks we have now. It's involuntary Mental Health Care that needs the shot in the arm. If they can't self-police their crazy then it is up to the state to enforce it with institutions.
