The issue is that harm reduction doesn't lead to any better results. All you get is less junkies dying in the streets, in exchange for drug abuse being even more attractive. You remove any and all inhibitions or consequences and society ends up picking up the tab anyway. My personal leanings lead me to say "fuck it"- certain people are going to do these things anyway, and if they don't die from Hep C or overdosing because we stop giving cops Naloxone (especially when junkies attack cops for "ruining the high"), they're going to die of exposure somewhere after nodding off. Alcoholics die everyday despite the fact that you can buy the cleanest stuff for nothing on any street corner- they're addicts who increase the dose until they kill themselves.

I disagree with this analogy. There is evidence that supervised injection sites cut OD deaths considerably and help people get clean. Vancouver has these legal heroin clinics and has had great success. It sounds crazy but if it works, it works. @Bush King I don't think these things should be compared. Harm reduction for drug addicts has good evidence for lessening death and even addiction itself. But saying hormones and surgeries are "harm reduction" when they don't lead to longlasting mental health benefits is just wrong. There is no harm being reduced.
