General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Lots of you already answered, thanks, but I decided to make the strawpoll anyway so if you don't mind you can vote again here.
Also i rephrased the question for clarity.

when did you start following the vtuber scene

https://strawpoll.com/polls/B2ZB3JMDByJ

(the milestones to separate the "eras" are arbitrary don't break my balls if you think I should have added something else)
i was aware of Kizuna Ai since the beginning but did not know what a V-tuber was until i saw Miko and Rushia saying NIGGA in GTA 5.

I saw Dennou Shojo Siro/Kizuna clips back in the day but i never really got interested, i didn't know wtf i was watching and my dumbass brain actually thought they were AI bots like cleverbot.

Then i got into holocancer around mano aloe's execution, and really into it since EN's debut, been lurking the thread ever since but only joined recently.

You should do a "Which agency do you follow" poll, i wanna see how many hidden nijisanji operatives there are in the thread.

Looking at the past, Gura never really addressed most her fans' shenanigans. Yet her fanbase behavior have improved a lot, or at least whatever issues you have with them are only contained in her own chat and does not impact other's.
I think a certain amount of internal wrangling happens during the pre-chat, although I haven't been using the chat for a while. But I can't recall the last time there was anything more egregious than FEET-posting (which has also tapered off a bit), so the "lol chumcons" posting sometimes comes across as more holding onto old grudges than anything else.

I was peripherally aware of Kizuna Ai, at least as far as pre-made videos go, back around 2017-18, but just at the "oh, that's neat" level. I didn't watch streamers of any variety until just after Myth's debut, which I think I picked up on due to a mixture of YT recs and forum activity elsewhere. I found this thread a bit later.

I've been enjoying Amaris Yuri recently. Yesterday she launched into a pretty epic rant about furries that brings up her own past experiences before veering into furaffinity and even kerothewolf.
(This is cut down from 20 minutes of game distractions and long pauses, be grateful.)

Or if you don't have time to listen to the whole thing, here's the main takeaway:

Interesting that this poll unexpectedly has a lot of answers in just one hour. This thread is actually more popular than I thought. I joined the rabbithole and started following it ever since that clip of Amelia Watson being toxic and killing her teammates on Valorant got popular. She has been my oshi ever since.
It's full of tourists and lurkers, the thread is fast but it really doesn't feel like there's a 100 people posting,

I'll post a screenshot of the results after 24 hours too

It'd probably have to be multiple choices since I don't imagine many people here are single agency simps only other than holobronies.

It's fine. It was a Palestinian kid.

Watched a bit of this stream and shes not bad but her voice filters me a bit as it doesn't fit the model at all. Then again, if I ever find someone to rig this shit, I will have the same issue.

Why on god's green earth would anyone think it would be a good idea to seriously ship streamers?
I don't get "shipping" other than when people use it to make fanart. I guess its fun. "I like X and Y so im gonna draw X and Y fucking each other"?

I like how the usual nip site now has Mika videos and is running the banner: I would like a lot of information about "MIKA MELATIKA".

Who knew a fat autistic creature in the UK could cause so much drama?

I'd not seen the videos before, and have put no effort into verifying them besides "yeah sounds like her" (well the first anyways, the second seems to have fallen out of a VHS time machine) but here you go:

Shes cute.

Seems another anti-kindred post is making the rounds on twitter again, this time from an Ike fan (with fans of nijiEN-connected livers mostly agreeing in the comments too)

Thread because I'm not screenshotting all of this.
Shoto's statement mentioned in the tweet (full version here, warning: LONG)

TL;DR (both from the posts + comments):
People are just now catching on that Vox's chat are a bunch of degens that can't even control themselves in other people's chats and let their liver collab with anyone they want. Vox has apparently had to avoid doing certain type of collabs with other livers because of disapproval from kindreds and kindreds were shown to be very ignorant of other people's chat rules, suspected to be caused by Vox's chat being more lenient towards degeneracy and his lack of properly addressing the issue without beating around the bush. So, people are trying to push for Vox to actually address the issue with his audience properly instead of folding midway like last time.

Personally, I doubt Vox is gonna address this anytime soon, or at least be able to properly address this in a way that's both (A) satisfying to people and (B) vague enough that it doesn't cost him his hardcore fujos, though I doubt he can pull of the second one. He has to do one way or the other, he's gonna have an upset party either way.

Also semi-unrelated observation, but I think it's funny how a lot of the thread replies are in broken english. Is there a way to check how many of Nijisanji EN's viewers are from asia?
Doubt Vox will directly address it. I don't think the streamer is ever at fault for how retarded their audience is. The most you can do is call out stupid behavior and say that you as a streamer don't like it in the hopes that they think "Oh, my oshi doesn't like when I act like a faggot" and they stop. That won't stop the hardcore ones as him addressing their faggotry is an acknowledgment of their existence.

Looking at the past, Gura never really addressed most her fans' shenanigans. Yet her fanbase behavior have improved a lot, or at least whatever issues you have with them are only contained in her own chat and does not impact other's.
Eventually, the people start self-policing each other. Normal people on the fandom don't want to get associated with the spergs so they call them out.

What's the best way to do a poll in this thread? I'm curious about when everybody started following vtubers here. I'd guess even the vast majority of the regulars here started after myths debut or the Taiwan incident
I started during Covid with Miko GTA clips. Never followed her until later. First livers I followed were the HoloEN girls. After that I just basically followed most of the JP ones as well.

Fun. Someone needs attention.

They should just hire kanauru, paying the honest amount for 2 videos per month and giving them and Amelia creative freedom. They already know what the west want, it's free money
Will management approve given how retarded they can get when it comes to working with non-japanese creators?

Prism's got gifted memberships now.

I don't think this means anything for the EN scene -- yes Prism is all EN VTubers, and most of them live in western countries, but the company is based in Japan, and recently got that SMJ partnership and MCN. And we already knew JP channels have had gifted memberships for a while.

Also, I never knew you had to allow receiving them, that's kinda interesting.
About fucking time.

I watched Kizuna Ai and Mirai Akari occasionally well before Hololive, but was never seriously invested until coof town had me bored watching a ton of youtube. I ran out of Jerma highlight clips to watch and I think around June/July 2020 I found the clip of Fubuki being amazed by american burgers and that was that. I'd say her and Marine were my entry level drugs into giving a shit about things overall.

Hmmm so are you insinuating the voting is...RIGGED?! looks like Fishman isn't sending his best for this democratical vote.
someone should post the fishman jeb meme

Lots of lurkers, I was one of them.

I must have lurked here at least a good few months before I joined. I didn't join for a long time, because joining a lolcow site to just talk about vtubers in a single thread is cringe. (I embraced it eventually) I forget when I first started lurking, but I first chimed in when Selen was having a rough day during their MK8 tournament. Iirc, it was before IryS debut, and before the trouble with byuu DDoS'ing the site (I remember getting annoyed by not being able to read this thread).

I remember Kizuna Ai, but interest first sparked when I saw Botan pop up, got into watching vtubers a bit after EN Gen 1 debuted.

Honestly, I just saw some Gura Karaoke clips and decided to dive in after seeing the occasional Fubuki clip and knowing of Kizzie back in the day. I'd watch the Japanese talent, but I can't speak a lick of moonspeak.

I've noticed the same thing. The videos I share from my own youtube channel often get hundreds of views, even though they're unlisted on Youtube. There are what, a dozen regular commenters here? I was expecting fewer views than that, but nope. There must be a whole invisible crowd of lurkers milling around.

How's it going, Lurkerbros? 👋

Most of my issues on Gura's chat come from those annoying gray-name tourists, who would usually post cringe comments and/or dump huge paragraph of emotes. The members are mostly fine, people might get annoyed with member emotes spam but I actually like that, and that's not even exclusive to Gura's chat.

Seems NijiEN have got their hands on a PUBG Mobile sponsorship.

Posting Selen's POV, but her, Elira, Nina, and Reimu are involved, and I think Mysta has his own sponsored stream.

A nice appetizer before she plays Apex Mobile on Friday :suffering:
