He's a mentally-deficient, mentally-deranged, man-child who's known no other real home. I can't see physical restraints like locks keeping him out when he can just break a window.

By getting involved, Tom and Harriet are in a position where they have to set him up with a new life - which in Chris's case only needs a room to jerk off and keep his toys in. Barb can't be trusted because even if she wasn't a willing participant, she's his mother and probably has battered woman syndrome (yet Chris has been eating her raw this whole time hey-yo).

Honestly, I doubt he actually has the strength to break a window with a fist or elbow strike. Remember when he smashed his PS3 with a brick? It looked like he was having some serious difficulty doing with both hands what you or I could easily do one handed, so I doubt throwing something heavy to break it would work for him either. I think just some locked, secured doors and windows is enough to keep him out, at least until the police can arrive to escort him away.

Barb lived to 80 while living in just as awful living conditions as Chris and while being a human snorlax in most of her middle age. She also allegedly had breast cancer and god knows what else. Harriet and Tom don't need to do anything for Chris. No one in this world is obligated to do a damned thing for Chris. If Barb is staying with them and Chris shows up on their doorstep then all they need do is call the police and have Chris removed.
