I think it might be Fuentes that turns first. During the Kino Casino interview, it was mentioned several times that Fagentes holds no loyalty to anyone but himself, even if he they provide him a tangible benefit (more clout, more money, catbois, etc.). Someone like Ralph. As far as I can see, Ralph doesn't provide any benefit to anyone beyond that of a mindless hound that will attack if pointed to as well as a built-in fall guy. Even then, he doesn't do that well and he is a massive millstone around the neck of anyone he associates with. Part of me really doesn't think Nick will put up with his shit anymore ESPECIALLY after the disaster that was the Metokur debate where he functionally and completely debased himself for next to nothing. I don't think Nick is dumb enough to keep going with something this toxic, if only because the rewards are outweighed by the risks and pitfalls.

The metokur debate was one of the stupidest decisions Nick could have made. I’d love to know what led to him agreeing to do it. I have no doubt Ralph convinced him that he could totally take on Jim in a debate and when he won he would get to wear the most glorious crown and be lauded. Jim’s huge audience would be won over by zoomer Nick, leaving Jim in the dust.

I think Ralph really sold him on this terrible idea and Nick’s giant ego bought it hook, line and sinker. Nick made the retarded plan very obvious when he told Jim he was there to kill his career. Nick really believed he could do it. Seeing how terribly it all panned out has been incredibly enjoyable. It’s been nothing but a nose dive into deeper rancid shit ever since that night.

Nick has a huge ego, but unlike Ralph I don't think he is so unhinged as to not realise when he has to correct his course. Hence, him recently saying he wants to avoid drama.

This was part of the deal with Ralph, Nick protects him and provides him with a cadre of people who he can pretend are his friends whilst Ralph is Nicks attack dog.

Nick, having had to deal with the feds and some left-wing quangos probably thought that he was untouchable - or at the very least, any sort of backlash would have been comparable to his experience of being on the no fly zone, Louis Theroux, getting kicked out of College...

However he was wrong, and the optics are so fucked and so funny that he is clearly looking for an out. Ralph was more than Nicky could chew. Lol.

My schizo theory is that that debate was a sort of deal for Ralph's "loyalty" (or rather continued partnership). As was mentioned by Josh during the Corn Harvest with Ade and PPP, Ralph is a very tit-for-every-tat kind of guy in spite of any claims he makes to the contrary. The "Gunt's Law of Equvalent Exchange", if you will. If you want him to do something for you (why the fuck you would want him doing anything for you is beyond me), you gotta do something for him. He doesn't do it for free. He's not Gator (even though Gator didn't do it for free either). You really wanna get under his skin via Superchat? You better pay more than $3.
