Giving money to Chris is always a stupid idea. However the way null handled it was fine and made Chris put some form of effort into doing something. He would likely end up heading to the convention, then the phone call dropped. Even Null could not anticipate that, and since he has said that the money can be used for emergencies, it's all fine. Yes, I do believe that Chris only did that because he was gonna go to another convention to hug and harass his "fans". I do concede that Null's optimism was misplaced in Chris, I can however understand from an empathetic standpoint why he was trying to help Chris.
