There were a few "transsexuals" like Marsha P Johnson (who sometimes identified as that, sometimes as a drag queen) there at the time, but it was predominantly just gay men. The line between just being effeminate gay and trans was much blurrier at the time too. The things to realize too is that Stonewall is a symbolic, mythic event, blown way out of proportion as the "start" of the gay rights movement. But decades of activism and networking followed, and that was certainly not all done by black trans women. Hell, a big reason gay rights are where they are today is that the movement became more mainstream and respectable, and more mainstream, middleclass gay people helped demonstrate that gays and lesbians were not, well, all mincing faggots and bull dykes existing on the edge of society. For some people in the gay movement, that turn was "assimilationist", so they've spent the last 20 years bitching about how wanting to just live a normal life is betraying the "radical, queer roots" of the movement. A big part of that has been trying to reframe everything so that only the queerest most flamboyant he-shes are who get to be leaders. Everyone else is a fascist bigot sellout traitor.
