President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

If you knew anything you’d know that the Croatian president doesn’t actually have the authority to do that. The prime minister holds the treaty power and his veto wouldn’t do shit. Go be dumb somewhere else.
Isn't there a hat you need to be eating?
They did lose the Continuation War after inflicting massive casualties on the Soviets (surely that didn't need to be said?), and joined Barbarossa in revenge. Croatia, well its Pres, is reeing over the Dayton Accord voting system in Bosnia which means Croats are in a autonomous state with Bosniak Moslems, instead of their own state like Serbs. I don't know how a fix for that can be delivered easily, but their virtue probably has an affordable price, They just make more of a hypocritical pretence that there's some high principle. And that's assuming the PM gives a shit what his non exec Pres thinks, as @Techpriest says. The Turks are honest in wanting their palms crossed with silver. The joining of NATO will take time or not happen, but Finland was once a friendly neutral, not it's hostile to Russia, and NATO aligned, and Sweden is similarly NATO aligned now. Both are regional military powers.
Sweden isn't making easy for themselves, as @Forgetful Gynn noted in the Pictures that make you laugh thread
sweden's feminism.png

You really have no idea how diplomacy and geopolitics work if you actually believe this shit. Congrats you faggot, you just prove how much of an NPC you Ziggers are
So the Swedish PM was just being diplomatic? I mean its not like the Turk have a hate boner for the Kurds or anything. I'm sure the geopolitical concerns of Joe Biden will take precedence, though.

LOL, no matter how strong you might think Erdogan is, he couldn't do anything but delaying Sweden and Finland entries. He's just asking for more money and drumming up nationalist votes for the upcoming election, considering how much he lost votes because of the ongoing economic crisis. But I don't think you would know that, considering NPCs like you lives in the La La Land

You might actually be on the spectrum if you think King Roach is going to veto Nato expansion just because of da feminist boogeyman

Turkey is in a really bad place right now economically and Erdogan needs some political wins now more than ever. He's just using Turkey's immense strategic importance to squeeze some free gibs from his Western allies

When it comes to wider defense it makes no sense for Turkey to actually oppose Finland and Sweden's acceptance into Nato. They both have pretty respectable militaries given their limited population and would directly take pressure off of Europe's south in the event of a confrontation with Russia. This is just temporary political theatre; Western officials have already stated multiple times that they're confident in their ability to strike a deal with the Turks

By year's end all of Scandinavia will be article 5 ensured
Cope, sneed, and dilate about it

not because of that, but because sweden is a big supporter of kurdish militias in syria. from turkish perspective, they're a literal state sponsor of terrorists who operate right next to turkey itself and are close allies with terrorists that actually do fight the turkish state itself (pkk)

Oh, I see, Edrogan is just pretending about the Kurds. I wonder what will happen when all that wheat and grain is being hoarded by Russia and it becomes an issue, not just in Turkey but everywhere else. Like how quickly everyone folded over buying Russian gas, making the ruble the strongest currency so far this year. He strikes me as the kind of man who'd rather stay in power than indulge Sleepy Joe's nonsense, especially since Sleepy Joe's party is about to get wrecked in the midterms.

I think you're on the spectrum if you're pinning your hopes on Turkey and Sweden, as the former is run by a man who hates Kurds with a passion and the latter is run by a thot who tried to lecture Edrogan about feminism when he brought up those Kurds she's harboring.

Copium is a helluva drug.

I don't think I would even call it copium, the sad fact is a lot of western heads of state and diplomats have never really engaged in diplomacy. Most of what they do now a days is just hang out with other western heads of state/diplomats, and lets be real here they have more in common with each other than they do their own country men. They graduated from the same prestigious universities, they are members of the same country clubs, go to the same parties, and their kids attend the same private schools. They legitimately don't know how to handle people like Edrogan, Putin, or Xi.

Always amusing to see the general mostly amerimutt /pol/ and A&N niggers go on about the politics of foreign countries like China, Turkey, India or anywhere else all while they themselves seem to have a hard time comprehending the intentions, motivations and goals of the opposing democrat viewpoint in their own country without display the democrats as evil, retarded, corrupt or something along those lines.

That, and how there aren't really any diplomats with training anymore. In the past they'd be well educated and experts in the area and country they were assigned to, now Ambassadorships and the like are handed out as political favors to the persons that gave the most money to a winning political candidate, at least that's how it is in the US. For example, regardless of your feelings on Stepan Bandera, a diplomat or foreign service worker in Eastern Europe should at know who he is but I guarantee many in the State Department didn't, and there are many who still don't. It's like we didn't learn from the clusterfuck that was the Iraq War and how a lot of people in government and Congress didn't know there were Sunnis and Shias, let alone what the differences between them are and why they go on periodic murder sprees against each other.

That and the Russian military, at least a few years ago, had problems with literal prostitution rings being set up within the more remote detachments, greatly adding to the said suicide rates in peace time.

Moscow and St. Pete's were both hot bed for gay sex tourism, at least to documentaries from some time back. There are a lot of military schools and boarding schools. Senior commanders or NCOs would demand weekly payments or beat the piss out of cadets or conscripts who are from the country and don't have families near by to help them. As a way to make the payments a lot of conscripts and cadets are pimped out or taught where to sell themselves. According to the documentaries, RF military was #1 military introducing conscripts into sex slavery. I don't know who the second is, to my knowledge, I simply don't know any other military that forces recruits to suck dick except for russia.

There is also a good memoirs describing pre 1917 coup and all the diviant shit that went on in St. Petes. A lot of poor students prostituted themselves to pay rent, gay baths, troons etc. Specific streets is where you went to pick up whatever guilty pleasure you wanted. Russia has never been a model of purity despite repressive as fuck orthodox church.

Ok, Ukraina bros, check and mate. Glorious liberators have captured an American four star general in Mariupol, Erik Olsen. + UK colonel and four NATO instructors. How will you cope now that a US general in RF custody and probably being interrogated by FSB as we speak.

Just a question for all the slavic language speakers in here. Why the fuck don't your languages have articles? What the fuck is wrong with your languages? Do you guys just look up to Swahili that much? Even Bahasa Indonesian sometimes uses definite articles and that's a language made to be as brain dead simple as possible. Is that why you guys are always fighting? Can't tell the difference between someone up top saying "shoot the bus" and "shoot bus" so they just end up shooting every bus that passes by?

I love this lie for two reasons. Russian idiots assume every military is as dysfunctional as theirs and needs to have a General on the front line (seriously I never even had an American or coalition eqvilant Brigadier attached to us when doing training with the ANA or Iraqi Army). There's also the idea that the Russians captured a 4 star GO but won't do a video interview or get any clear photos of them, yet /chug/ tards will believe this nonsense.

For example, regardless of your feelings on Stepan Bandera, a diplomat or foreign service worker in Eastern Europe should at know who he is but I guarantee many in the State Department didn't, and there are many who still don't.

A lot of people are just not up to speed with Soviet era propaganda, tbh. They probably need education from Lavrov pissing Israel with his Hitler's joo DNA and how Russia didn't invade anyone.

Slav languages use endings a lot that define relationship between words in a sentence. It becomes natural for native speakers, and is the easiest way to figure out NATO spies. I can just mix my words up in a sentence and only a native will get it straight away. It also makes poetry writing far better than in any language.

Instead of mandatory use of articles, we usually don't use them, but there are words that are used to define "that" (tot) but there is no need to constantly say "any". If I need to shoot a specific bus, comrade will let me know, otherwise any bus is gtg.

Same deal is about using "is". Why do anglos constantly need to spell it out? Instead of saying "this it" you need to insert pesky is: "this is it" anyone should assume it's implied.

They should be, or else how can we tailor our propaganda to counter theirs? This is literally the first thing they teach you in Psy Ops; know your enemy. They probably don't think this Ukraine conflict is worth the trouble though.

You seem to know a lot about this hard gay sex, is it from personal experience?
Here's a pravda.ru article from 2007 for anyone interested, yes, the russian pravda translates it's articles for western export, but I can imagine they'll eventually remove ones like this when they notice people click it too much.
