Natalie Portman is not comparable to Amber Heard either. Natalie was a star in three Star Wars movies and had a career before those movies as well. Her sheer star power is what allowed her to bully Marvel into ruining Thor 2. Lady Thor is incredibly, almost universally, despised in the comics. I would be surprised if it's actually good for her career to get the position in the movies except that people remember she's in Thor again.Yeah tbh I didn't even remember she appeared outside of the opening act and then I remember in discussion after MoM that she does in fact help protect Strange's body when he's doing some astral projection stuff. Not that that's a judgement on the actor's performance I remember her as doing a fine job in both movies but I certainly wouldn't recognize her as that character outside the context of a marvel movie and I wouldn't consider Bebblebick Cumbybumble as letting some of his star power "shine on her" over it.
If they REALLY wanted to make the stretch that this relatively minor Aquaman role is worth a ton in speculative damages they should've pointed to Natalie Portman reprising her relatively unpopular role as Jane (as Lady Thor) in the new Thor. However Lady Thor is (as far as I'm aware) a pretty recent character with breakout success in the actual print comics and there's no way to predict that Heard's characters comic equivalent would have that sort of breakout success.
As a layman I can't say how baffling I find Elaine's performance. Even the best are not perfect at their jobs and relative to title/experience I agree with Nick and co that Vasquez is the star of the plaintiff's council and even she's had a few slips here and there (despite generally bouncing back well from those moments), but Elaine is SO BAD. She lacks charisma, she lacks argumentative skill and she clearly lacks brainpower as well! The fact that she so clearly relies on a crutch she identified that she'll whine "Well, what if anything!" at the judge when met with an objection is unreal to me (nevermind that the judge let's her do it).
Some people have pointed out that Elaine is a civil attorney, and it could be she's got extremely little trial/court experience. This is a really difficult case for anyone to fight (on Amber's side) so this may not be entirely Elaine's fault - more Amber for picking the wrong attorney. I believe at one point the judge actually said 'what if any isn't a cure-all' when she overused it.
