Crime Gunman at a Texas elementary school kills 19 students and two adults before being fatally shot, officials say - yeehaw

(CNN)A suspect is in custody after a shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left at least two dead and injured 14 people, including students, authorities said.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) posted about an "active shooter" at Robb Elementary at 12:17 p.m. local time and said law enforcement was on site.

The suspect was taken into custody as of 1:06 p.m. local time, according to the Uvalde Police Department.
Two have died after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, a spokesperson from Uvalde Memorial Hospital told CNN.

The hospital received 13 children at their facility who were being treated for varying injuries, he said. Two children were transported to San Antonio and another is pending transfer, Tom Nordwick said.

Additionally, two patients were dead on arrival, he said. Nordwick was not sure of the ages of the two deceased. A man in his 40s was also being treated there, he said.

Nordwick did not have conditions on any of the victims.

A family member has a small child and apparently they do active shooter drills but call them lockdowns and let the kids think it’s for a tornado or something even though they have to be very very quiet.
The kid in question doesn’t know they’ve been through active shooter drills and they have to be around 6 or 7.

We tell the kids that we do lockdown drills in case someone comes into the school who is not supposed to be here. I’m sure your kids do them too, but obviously we don’t tell the kids it’s about school shootings. Fifth graders probably know but the little ones don’t.

What is really hard to watch is that the kids think it’s a joke and like to play around while hiding and it breaks my heart to think about someone busting the door down and killing them. Typically, in a drill, the teacher turns off the lights, locks the door, and shepherds all the kids into the bathroom. Then locks that door as well.

This is why most of those dead kids in Sandy Hooked were found all packed into the bathroom. If I recall correctly

Pretty remarkable, especially when you consider the fact this took place at an elementary school. We live in a large city.

I grew up post-columbine so I can say we did have these drills. Post education though had no drills (I think people who dormed did?).

Speaking of active shooter policy…

I did work at a church nursery that had a psychotic guy stalking it (lol) he broke in & assaulted the preacher before being subdued. He was very dangerous, thought he was Jesus etc

Anyway, after that my boss came to me and said regarding the active shooter drill, forget what I learned about lights off, hiding my toddlers.

She said if the psycho guy ever came back with a gun, she wanted me to take my toddlers out the window and run across the street to a neighboring building. The window was low enough enough I could place them outside it with no injury.

We knew who the threat was then, and that seemed like a better plan imo those church doors weren’t going to stop anyone
