I think the religion is weird, but being the only group in the last 30 years to ever not respond to being mocked without extreme violence deserves at least a nod of respect. I guess it has to do with the "feminine gender" being perceived as lesser than the "masculine" in states with defined class systems. It could just be pregnancy weight gain that she hasn't lost yet. Some women gain 100 pounds during pregnancy, mostly water. Every woman has weight to lose after birth, the body doesn’t just go back to the way it was before conception. Most women look about five months pregnant when they leave the hospital with the baby, and no one really tells that will happen to first time mothers so it's one of those "fun" surprises for them. New mothers are so busy with the baby that a lot of them don't have the time it takes to dedicate themselves to losing weight - and they definitely don't have the energy.
