I'm not entirely certain, but I'm pretty sure you have to shoot to kill if you want a court to consider it legitimate self-defense. I know that in some states that if you brandish a firearm to try and intimidate an attacker, the prosecution can argue that you weren't in fear for your life since you didn't attempt to shoot the person until dead and therefore self-defense protections don't apply.

I'm afraid Jade is going to have to use 00 buckshot on the gunt.
