That depends on bullet weight and construction, and to some extent on where you're hunting. A 70+-grain bullet with a proper jacket for the job does wonders on Texas whitetail. A 55-grain varmint bullet can inflict a horrific but superficial wound on a larger deer.

I would quibble a bit on this. I know a few guys who use high-power, solid copper, 55-grain ammo in .223 (VOR-TX 55-grain TSX) for whitetails. But this topic does get a lot of discussion over a bottle of après-hunt scotch.

It's why all the bellyaching over things like repealing the Second Amendment or abolishing the Electoral College is utterly meaningless when Republicans control nearly three-quarters of state legislatures and would never go for them.

Also, if someone (say Brianna Wu) says something close to not even wrong about a subject it's not "assum[ing] the worst", sexism or censorship to assume they probably don't know anything about the topic especially not the part they were just wrong about.
