President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Are you Canadian or something? Is the concept of national pride foreign to you?
You think volunteers abandoning their homeland and fighting under a foreign flag for purely ideological reasons is somehow nationalistic?

Maybe you should be asking if the concept of national pride is foreign to yourself. Because you clearly don't understand it.

Lol, that's the most retarded take here so far, and that says something.

America didn't do shit when Georgia got their shit pushed in, and won't do anything about Ukraine or Poland. They have their own problems now. Explaining to a hungry American population why they're about to be the subject of a nuclear retaliation strike from Russia is beyond Joe Biden's skills as a statesman.

Bro, in Russia, there are marshlands the size of Switzerland. Just because it's "land", it's not always a usable land, but here you go, pop density of Russia, they are a lot like Canada, but less spread on the border

You see those peaks (St. Petes and Moscow), nuke them and Russia is gone. Lord Emperor knows his shit.

Big problem with Georgia, they gave up after a week of fighting and sat down with Russia to negotiate ... you can't save those who don't want to save themselves.

will they now join with kyiv patriarchate orthodox church? or does ukraine now get multiple separate and competing orthodox churches?

They are in a limbo, a sect on the same level if you or I get people together. All parishes have to vote and there is a process to join Uki Ortho ... but this is going to be complicated.

Why would westerners be upset that a bunch of volunteers died after going out of their way to get involved in a foreign war?

@Sphere
Now point to me how they create 17.5 million tons more. More than what they built. Plus what they made. Generation of a surplus in addition to. I ran out of ways to state this. Here, I'll use math.

Soviet production + 17500000 tons = Berlin
Soviet production + 0 = Somewhere in Belarus

Tons of what, exactly?

It's prolly inside the article I quoted and linked.

You can check it out on your next web surfing vacation.

I understand that you are a liberal and have no technical education or real-life experience, but nuclear weapons are not magic. Americans do not have any hypersonic delivery vehicles for their nuclear warheads, so after Russian sensors detect an American ICBM launch, hypersonic missiles armed with nuclear warheads will already be detonating over every major American and European city before the slow American ICBMs even make it to Russian borders. You think Americans don't know that?

No superpower is getting into a nuclear exchange over fucking Poland, of all places, holy shit. Even if the psheks get nuked, enlightened Europeans and Americans would rather pretend nothing happened and go on with their lives, rather than risk total annihilation. Better to lose some face than most of your population.

Russian hypersonic missiles are made of the same shit as Russian armata "tank":

Putin himself said that his hypersonic rockets can fly at speed "higher than mach 55" ... but you can look at his rockets hitting Hostomel, you can tell that their rockets aren't exactly very accurate to start with.

Take a break, enjoy a vid about Russia interior. Vasyugan swamp, spread out for 10's of thousands of square kilometers, bigger than many countries in EU. Russia has a lot of them.

Germany isn't even in the top 25 per capita. The highest non-bank-state country in Europe is Norway.

How does a Carl Gustaf with a HEAT round not shrek a BTR?
I should have added in that list. Most of those, not on the list, are meme countries anyhow.

This Denys Davydov video was probably posted, mentioning the now well reported delivery of SU-25 kits which Ukraine assembled. He likens this ground attack aircraft to the A-10. Also a bit of Ramzan 'girl boots' Kadyrov making a delusional threat to Poland. If Putin falls, Kadyrov will be already cold in the ground. I would note his Kadyrovski and Omon play little part in fighting unless you want intimidating bakbuskas into saluting the flag of his father and menacing reluctant Russian troops. Anyhow, I note at the 11:10 mark he mentions how Ukraine is now substantially loosening its gun control measures. Apparently in his phone renewal he and others were asked whether society can accept looser measures, particularly for pistols. He suggests it'll be like the Second Amendment. He alludes to the murder of those poor children in Texas. He wonders if the availability of cheap alcohol could be an issue with firearms decontrol. He voted for the measure. Anyhow, there would be lots of guns around. He talks too about volunteers helping, but sometimes the things they bring to the front aren't always of the best quality, giving the example of a fast bandage which ripped. Closes referring to a Russian general who was piloting a SU-25 which was shot down. He had been dismissed for unprofessional flying but was reemployed, and is now no more. 'Give us more pilots like that who neglect their aviation rules.

Chloe Tilley discuss with Samantha de Bendern, associate fellow of the Russia and Eurasia programme at Chatham House, on Times Radio.

Basically talking about Russia trying to take the remaining towns, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk and Sievierodonetsk (presumably also Lysychansk). Children in Mariupol are apparently not getting summer holidays as they will be forced to prepare for the Russian curriculum, plus putting TV screens up in that ruined town which broadcast Russian propaganda. That meme currency, the ruble is not in use. Russia has not admitted the 115 National Guards who were sacked. There were 12 from Krasnodar who managed not cross the border on the basis they had no passports to travel. She doesn't note that the 12 are suing for unfair dismissal. She refers to a process of fake mobilisation. They get men to call to barracks and tell them they can join for a lot of money and apparently many don't know they can refuse. I think those were the callup papers myself and others posted. It wasn't the start of some mass callup.

As expected, the situation in Donbas is very difficult. The occupiers are trying to achieve in at least a hundred days of war the goals they hoped to achieve in the first days after February 24. Therefore, they concentrated maximum artillery, maximum reserves in Donbas. There are missile strikes and aircraft attacks - everything. We are protecting our land in the way that our current defense resources allow. We are doing everything to increase them. And we will increase them.

Address to Stanford staff and students:

What matters most to me and why? I do not know whether the current presidents of a state fighting for its freedom have ever answered this question. But here is my answer. Weapons, sanctions, finances, blockade and confiscation of all Russian assets, a fair tribunal against all war criminals, updated efficient security architecture that will prevent such new wars in the world. And, of course, a complete restoration of normal peaceful life in our country.
Those hypersonic rockets have hit some truly stupid targets like an independent garage, near Lviv I think. Putin knows the nuclear heckling by his underlings is empty but hopes a few are fooled.

Denys Davydov talks against about a days like yesterday, Russian failure towards Bakhmut and Sievierodonetsk so Lugansk is still holding out. Ukraine attacks towards Bruskynske. Some small progress. Notably a RU SU-35 was shot by a UA Mig-29. Also mentions of approval of MLRS (tho their range was apparently an issue). Mentions too the T-62, which might be obsolete but they can ride shoot and fight. Bad news, good news coming every day.

Ryan McBeth has found what a circle slash on Russian vehicles means. It means the Cherniv axis of attack. Apparently a Russian BTR loaded with stolen potatoes, Tuvan 55th Mountain Motorised Batt.

The Russiaboos are living in the same fantasy land as they always have. They were when Kruschev informed the West, "We will bury you!", they are now. It's literally all they have since they don't have actual real-world anything.

It's seriously LOL.
IIRC that speech better translates in context to “we will be at your funeral.” He’s talking more about the idea of socialism outliving capitalism. Funny Corn Man banging his shoe is one of those moments that really looks a lot more ominous than it really was. He would also later on get into a passionate debate with Nixon over home appliances. The early Cold War was wacky sometimes

The prices have been rising since before Russia invaded Ukraine. If you think your pizza costs more because of Russia then you need to voluntarily commit yourself ASAP.

War materiel. 200k Studebaker trucks. Start there. Where is the industrial capacity to manufacture that many more trucks? After you figure that out find the capacity for the other 200k+ wheeled vehicles. Then find it for the 2000 locomotives and 11000 rail cars. Double the amount of the rails produced. Double the aviation fuel, explosives, aluminum, and rubber. Increase copper production by 500%. And, oh yeah, food. Double that output and make sure to include 780000 tons of canned meat. Find the capacity to build 35000 more radio stations, 380000 field telephones, and a million miles of cable. 15 million more boots. 14000 aircraft. 13000 tanks. 32000 motorcycles. 1.5 million blankets.

This is just some of the Lend-Lease. A portion of that 17.5 million tons of aid. Find the capacity to replace even a fraction of that. Do it without importing western Lend-Lease machine tools and factory equipment including 38000 lathes and other metal-working tools. Do it without the imported raw materials like the 100k tons of cotton and the 500k tons of rolled steel. Do it in addition to everything they did before. You can't convert that tank plant back into a locomotive one. It's gotta be new. All new. From scratch. Created from nothing.

Lord Emperor knows his shit.
He is straight up repeating what someone else said in this thread many pages ago. That's all he does and it's lauded because people like hearing what they want to hear. One could argue that's the bulk of this thread, @Badungus Kabungus excepted of course.

Someone could pop in and start saying anything as long as it's pro-Ukrainian and no matter how retarded it is it'd be more than accepted and never questioned.

Kind of autistic to ask someone else instead of me when I was responsive. No sane American thinks the prices rising over the last 365+ days is due to Russia.

Is amazing how one cant believe anyone on this war, everyone has their side and is entrenched on it, even here you cant believe anyone is telling the truth or giving a good faith argument, so I have resigned myself to wait to see what will actually happen.
But I can say that if this is a glow in the dark operation I applaud, actually impressed because if you don't care about the Ukrainians at all this war is pretty much perfect for USA's geopolitical interests (all the third world people that will die due to lack of food don't count anyway and even better they can be blamed on Russia)
If Russia had conquered Ukraine with the American speed in Iraq there would be a measure of the actual Russian power, as they didn't: there is another measure of actual Russian power.
Furthermore in this battle of attrition the American's shave away at Russia in every aspect without spending American lives and with the plus of putting even more money in their military complex(which they love) without the need of them starting one again. So Russia ends a pariah from Europe, their economy in severe decline and their ageing military equipment further reduced. Everything they won since the fall of the URSS is slowly being lost because they are absolute morons for falling for it. I cant believe Putin was in the KBG, didn't they teach how to do this kind of thing without trowing rockets around like complete retards?.
I would like to give the overworked CIA glowie assigned to us my congratulations, this has been really well done you even got new people in Nato, strengthened your hold on Europe and made an example to threaten China with, now neck yourself

So buckle up, sunshine, cause the Pollacks are gonna get their own version of STALKER if they try to fuck around some more, and America won't lift a finger to help them.
I don't think people in your camp are good at their predictions. You went from Russia won't invade, to Russia is invading but this war will outpace the US invasion of Iraq. I'm sure you assured others that the US and NATO wouldn't dare send material aid and doubted its usefulness yet weapons and material is flooding the country. Don't pick fortune teller as your day job.

Are you sure this is from the war? I don't see any invasion symbols.
I tried to find more info on it, but sadly wasn't able to. As Techpriest mentioned, seems to be rumors. I jumped the ship way to fast on that one. Sorry.

What did he say that was not true?

Normally i don't give you baby rapist the time of day, but what NATO losses? At this point in time, not a single NATO soldier has gotten lost and at the most, we might lose some military weapons that we can make more of no problem or that are being replaced.

In return, you have 30000 dead and wounded Russians if not more, and my cost, I don't know I guess i paid a bit more for my Pizza today...A good trade i say, tomorrow more Russians are dead and i will pay a bit more for bread than i did 3 months ago. Ah well, I guess I will not be fucking two high-class prostitutes this week and only one, the sacrifices I make for this war.
NATO isn't losing Military weapons. They aren't even really spending. All of those weapons are being used for precisely thee task they were manufactured and paid for. Destroying the Soviet/Russian Military. And NATO can replenish those assets far cheaper and far faster than Putin can replenish tanks.

And speaking of which, everyone does realize how bad the Tank and vehicle situation has become for Russia, right? Reasonable third party estimates put the number of Russian operational front line tanks at around 3000 just before the start of the war. That's the T-72's and better. Putin has now had almost half of those wiped out. That's why we are suddenly seeing ancient T-62's showing up. And I don't think anybody is ruling out T-55's mixed in. If Putin comits any more modern stuff he can no longer protect his 10000's of miles of border. He can't prop up Kadryov or Lukashenko. Georgia and Chechnya won't stay subservient. And heaven forbid Khazahkstan might start getting ideas about thinking for themselves. And that's not factoring in the more openly hostile neighbors like Kim or Xi. The Kung Flu may be helping Puttie out there as they're too busy internally. But once they need an external conflict to drum up nationalism, he's now the soft target.
