Crime Gunman at a Texas elementary school kills 19 students and two adults before being fatally shot, officials say - yeehaw

(CNN)A suspect is in custody after a shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, left at least two dead and injured 14 people, including students, authorities said.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) posted about an "active shooter" at Robb Elementary at 12:17 p.m. local time and said law enforcement was on site.

The suspect was taken into custody as of 1:06 p.m. local time, according to the Uvalde Police Department.
Two have died after the shooting at Robb Elementary School, a spokesperson from Uvalde Memorial Hospital told CNN.

The hospital received 13 children at their facility who were being treated for varying injuries, he said. Two children were transported to San Antonio and another is pending transfer, Tom Nordwick said.

Additionally, two patients were dead on arrival, he said. Nordwick was not sure of the ages of the two deceased. A man in his 40s was also being treated there, he said.

Nordwick did not have conditions on any of the victims.

How would a school be notified of an attack as it is currently happening? Something taught in self defense classes is that you will absolutely never know you're entering a deadly altercation until it is happening to you, hence why you're always the first responder. There's only limited time to act in a timely manner as a response to an attacker, in this case, the chain of communication could not act appropriately, nor has communication worked for Parkland, Santa Fe, or Saugus. You do not know it's happening until it begins.

An issue not being brought up is the overall floor plan. That makes a big difference. Some elementary schools I’ve seen only have one outside exit (or multiple exits that lead to the same fenced in area) to a playground that is fenced entirely with no exit. Schools aren’t designed as well as they should be, I agree with that, but teachers and parents don’t like the idea of kids being able to completely escape school grounds at elementary schools.

Most of the schools in the US were built in a time where you could literally bring your gun to school and use it in a school gun club, a time where we didn't see school shootings. The best solution to the school shooting issue is for schools to have armed security while it is in session, full stop.

Current federal law makes it a crime to carry a gun into a school zone, gun free zones are the biggest target for shooters, for obvious reasons. If we allowed responsible gun owners to gather and volunteer as school security, that would be not only an excellent deterrent to shooters, but possibly the best chance to stop them if they want to commit suicide by boomer blasting your head open.

Regardless of who patrols schools, we need armed security at schools. "resource officers" can't do jack shit.

Not where I live. Many elementary schools I’ve seen around my area have been remodeled to make it harder for kids to exit the school. They can escape a fire easily because the playground would be large enough to fit the student body, but escaping an active shooter would be a much different scenario in that case. Schools where I live have a lot of that prison aesthetic with all the fencing. It’s good for kids not escaping or ditching school easily, but bad for an active shooter scenario.
