I would have done him a world of good because it would have been the first time he had to deal with the consequences of his actions. It would have made him think twice when he would try to engage in typical irl CWC behavior. It probably wouldn't have straightened him out entirely, but the lesson he would have learned if Synder threw the book at him would have better served him at 29 instead of 39.
