Mega Rad Gun Thread

I was in maintenance & the training devices were generally static or too heavy/awkward/expensive to carry around, so the standard for retraining was with full water cans or toolbags w/ kettlebells (for mechanics who lost their tools or left them in the motorpark); except for after a dipshit private dropped one on his foot & broke it. I'm pretty sure he did it on purpose, and for a while after we could only use essays for that kind of corrective training.
"Corrective training".
I love these kind of euphemisms. "Structurally assisted braking". "Thermal event". "Spontaneous disassembly". I'm glad they happen in other fields.
Edit:
Posting here because Guntuber thread made me think of it when discussing the socialist rifle association (photo is of the bigger guy's rifle)

Why do larpers hate putting optics on rifles?

A couple years ago, my workplace had a “material exotherm”, which caused an “unplanned pressurization” of the industrial oven it was in, resulting in a “kinetic event” when the overhead door buckled and was blown off its tracks. We were specifically instructed not to use the word “explosion” when getting debriefed by the fire marshal.

Because YOU DON'T NEED IT and IT WILL FAIL WHEN YOU NEED IT.

That's what I always head at least.

Irons are irons, who cares if they're flip ups as long as they're zeroed and work.
Yeah. And BUIS are probably some of the cheaper ones out there. Also flipped down is less crap to snag when stowing.

I mean I wouldn't do this, however....

Because they have to have more than 70 IQ to be able to pick out the right optics/rings combination and to be able to mount it without breaking anything, then to be able to sight it in correctly.

We probably had very similar shooting instructors. "AKM is like shark. Is perfect killing machine. Optics are a decadent western luxury, they will break at worst moment."

Edit: Also, eww, he has keymod. Also a $10 flashlight from Amazon. And a shitty airsoft grade sling.

It was a kinder & gentler Army by the time I showed up; I feel like I missed out on the real gems.

That guy? His rifle is sans optics probably because he was broke after buying that drum mag. Or they have some fancy Chinese/airsoft optics for the glamour shots, but show up looking like that to the range/meet.

Its been awhile since I've posted on this thread so let me talk about recent additions to the collection. I got my hands on a pristine Peruvian Mauser. A quirk about them is that the Peruvian military stored rifles with the bolts removed in order to deter theft, make a gun utterly useless so you won't steal it. When the Mausers were imported from Peru, Sam Cummings imported the rifles and bolts separately to prevent a bunch of paperwork issues and there wasn't a great job when it came to making sure the bolts match, so a great majority of Peruvian Mausers you come across have mismatched bolts. Since 7.65 is annoying to find, it'll be a safe queen for a bit.

Second is my first AR that I bought from a friend for $900. I'm an AK guy for the most part but I was looking for something that shot cheaper ammo and now I have it. It's built on a poverty lower and an Aero slick upper, has a BCM LPK and bolt/carrier, Radian Raptor ambi charging handle, Lancer carbon fiber handguard and stock for slight boomer 'tisms at the range, Faxon integrated break pencil barrel, Wojtek adjustable gas block, and a Leupold 1.5-4x VX-Freedom duplex reticle. I completely forgot what trigger I have but it has an "H" stamped on it with a very light pull and an ambi safety. Since my state has been retarded with NICS there was a backlog so I had to wait a couple of days and when I went to pick it up at the FFL where I did the transfer at I said "I'm here to pick up the retarded looking AR" and got them to laugh a bit.

Who was the first guy to mount an RMR on a pistol slide?
Probably started with some of the IPSC guys putting Doctor reflex sights directly on the slide instead of a frame mount. Not sure when those first showed up. 15-20 years ago? I can’t imagine it goes all the way back to pinshooting setups. Old aimpoints and tascos probably wouldn’t hold up for very long.

Huh, you know I had assumed that the RMR was the first optic to ever be mounted to a slide, I completely forgot about Doctor profile sights, hell Trijicon had an RMR before the RMR was the RMR.

People have been putting C-MOREs on pistols for competition for 30 years.
Did anyone ever mount them directly on the slide though? First ones I ever saw holding up to the reciprocation were Doctor and Burris, but even they still had a limited service life.

I don't know. I know those brackets for them have been available for forever. Back when C-More was a popular go to, I was more interested in video games and Power Rangers.

Welp, we're about to get fucked up the bumbum here in Canada. Shitlib government just announced a new gun control bill, jumping on the opportunity of a mass shooting on the other end of the continent. Rumour has it it's going to be a New Zealand style full ban on semi autos and handguns. We already have magazines limited to 5 rounds and strict loicensing, so don't ever believe "common sense" libs will stop at whatever limited restrictions they are currently pushing in Muttland. No limits will ever be enough, period.

This is pretty typical. When I was [powerlevel] an instructor on basic [/powerlevel] we'd take a dumbell and tape a picture of a phone onto it, then give it to whoever got caught with his phone out during lessons.
