What do you find irritating about YouTubers?

Ok so if I'm being honest one of the new things YouTube has added that I actually like is the "chapter" system so that youtubers who make long videos covering various topics can organize the topics in their videos. It's surprisingly handy and also works well for music albums too. However now it really grinds my gears when youtubers don't use them. My personal theory is that some of these youtubers avoid using chapters because a system that allows users to skip to the relevant parts of the videos will naturally result in less watch time. Either that or they're just lazy and don't put them in.

The irony is that the people who get big on yt are 99% people who would just be annoying newfags, lolcows, or peripheral orbiters of whatever hobby they attached themselves to. YouTube did a cull of every actual internet community, and pruned out almost everybody over 40, or who knows WTF they're talking about. Who else has the time and space to maintain a home studio, and record, edit, and upload a weekly video? It's rarely the people who can make some magic happen.

So many creators will say they HAVE to play this every two minutes or they lose subs. Just because someone made a video or a blog post saying it could help numbers doesn’t mean you should cancer up your content.

There's a youtube channel called Cartoonist Kayfabe, it's two guys talking somewhat quietly about specific comic book issues. They randomly insert a segment to plug their own work, since they're long time professionals. Nothing wrong with that, but this segment starts with a boxing ring bell that's multiple times louder than the two guys are and it's somehow just distorted enough to be noticeable. I get a minor heart attack and earbleed every time it happens.

What I find most irritating are a number of things.
  • I dislike the ones who ask for subs, likes, comments, etc. at the beginning of the video. I've made it a personal principle to dislike the video and click off it every time someone does this. Apparently, there's some research that suggests, it increases subscriber count so maybe I'm just an autistic lizard person because I will actively unsub if someone does it.

  • Youtubers bitching about monetization. I get it, it sucks losing potential ad revenue but at the same time...why are you relying on such an unstable employment field such as fucking Youtube? I notice that Youtubers who complain about demonization also have a Patreon so it sorta strikes a weird note with me. Funny those same people also make sponsor deals. At least have a part-time job on the side or something if you need money so much.

  • In addition to the above, Youtubers bitching about being age-restricted.

  • Everyone who used the term "influencer" and/or give their fanbase a shit nickname. But that's more an issue with people who make a career out of social media in general.

  • Obnoxious editing. Overuse of visual effects, obnoxious royalty-free music, overused sound effects, the video itself being edited so awfully that there's a cut every single second.

  • Documentary Youtubers leaving in actual flops and second takes in their videos. Ugh.

Ok this one is going to sound mean but I cannot for the life of me listen to people with speech impediments. Doesn't matter if they're the smartest person in the world, if their speech sounds like it hasn't progressed from a 4 year old my brain shuts off.

While I'm on the subject of annoying speech there's a particular accent that sounds like it's a combination between German and French (could also be something totally different) that I also find grating on the ears. I can't quite describe it but I tend to notice a lot of film analysis youtubers have it.

Mentioning Paolo From Tokyo again to bring up YouTubers that are always cheerful, even when discussing things that are fucked up, weird me the hell out. For example here's Paolo cheerfully talking about how you can legally dick down a 13 year old in Japan.

Youtubers who have excess saliva in their mouth and constantly lipsmack make me infuriated as shit.
 
Fake thumbnails or titles (not as much fake as just using things that have nothing to with the content of the video), it goes beyond clickbait its just lying. Gets me kinda mati.

I used to watch bushcraft videos but that is now swamped with this stink of sometimes actual porn in the thumbnails.

step 1: clickbait remover. lets you look around a video's content via the thumbnail to see if the horny is actually in there
step 2: blocktube. block any and all channels with the horny in them
 
new frustration on youtubers
youtubers who artificially make their lets play difficult Its frustrating to watch. while announcing it with condescending tone

Example:
HEY GUYS IM Playing pokemon with only 1 magikarp,NO POKECENTER,NO EVOLVING MAGIKARP,NO POKESTORE,BEATING THE CHAMPION AND ITS NUZLOCKE

Youtubers who died in a horror game on purpose for longer watch time, and they use ADHD to justify that behavior, also pretending to be STUPID!!!! ON A SIMPLE PUZZLE again for more watch time

I GET IT YOU NEED AD REVENUE BUT CAN'T YOU NOT STOOP THAT LOW!!!!

While this is more of an issue with zoomer humor in general, I hate it when YouTubers are self aware about the fact that they are doing things like what you people have said above, and make jokes about it constantly. They act like being self aware about how fake, scummy, trend chasing, and shilling they are but make no effort to change that or improve yourself. Back when I used to watch Pyrocynical regularly back in high school this always bothered me since he would constantly use self-aware humor but change little for the better unless he felt his relevance was fading or something. I haven't watched him since the discord leaks but I'm certain he's still doing that are probably making self aware humor about being a furry that is into obese dragons. Hell he made jokes about that sort of thing even pre-leaks, since his Dark Souls character was a fat dragon and would call himself a furry ironically because people often accused him of it. If he ever troons out please tell me since I've been betting on that a while now.

It is always off putting when they do this. Meta jokes are a dead horse in general, but most of the time they don't even make a joke. They just say "I'm drinking coffee" or something equally mundane and laugh about it to themselves. And it's becoming sadly more common because when someone sees a successful youtuber doing this they ape about every behavior they can.

It's been getting worse for a few years. It's now in the middle of the video where whomever will waste several seconds telling you to like, subscribe and hit the bell. Though at least some people know how to time it and not completely interrupt the flow of what they are making - some just slap a pre made animation with a sound byte right in the middle of what they are doing. Fake cursor that comes up and hits subscribe, the whole bit.

When a solo youtuber get some popularity and then starts constantly featuring other people in their videos
Asking people to like and subscribe at all or showing those dumb animations
Porn memes or whatever those shits are called where the thumbnail is obviously cropped porn

Powerleveling but as a Youtuber they are probably both milking a topic for clicks since honestly its easy ad revenue and their content is honestly interchangeable, as for the sites you suggested as much as people complain about Youtube they'll never leave it because of the sheer viewer base there. Sure you could go to another site but good luck bringing your massive following with you in its entirety. For any of those alternatives to even have a chance to compete with Youtube you would need a mass exodus of million sub channels and very few if any of them are willing to rock the boat like that for financial reasons.

The talking to the editor bit has been a youtuber trope for too long, I think it predates Mark doing any of that, but the way Mark's editor implements it is at least somewhat original if at least at first. The most painful version of this kind of thing is the very repetitive "show editing timeline in software of choice after youtuber asks for an edit, waste time with editor's cursor dragging an element around" or some other such padding. So many people have done this same 'joke' that it isn't even one anymore.
